Topic: WLS and Relationships: Research Study
Hello to all,

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

I am a social psychologist and a nurse, and am faculty at a university in the Western United States. I am recruiting participants for my research study examining heterosexual couple relationships following the female partner's weight loss surgery. The study includes a survey and an interview with each couple partner. There is no cost to participate.

It has been my observation that although the number of weight loss surgeries performed is increasing, there is little attention to the impact and adjustment that couples go through following surgery. Social support -- including a partner's support -- is critical to achieving goals, and knowing more about couples' experiences is key.

I'd like to illuminate this aspect of weight loss surgery, and learn of strategies that may help other couples who
experience weight loss surgery in the future.

If you would like to participate or learn more about the study, please contact me privately. There is no obligation to participate if you contact me. Private email address is:

Thank you for your time.

Topic: RE: Support Group in LV open to any surgeon's post op
Hi there,

Our clinic offers a weekly weight management group that includes a great deal of behavioral focus. Currently, it is open to post op patients as well as non WLS weight management patients but the hope is that as it grows we will divide the groups. Typically 5-10 people attend and the cost is $5. It is facilitated by a Masters level psychology student pusuing her doctorate who has been working with eating and weight disorders and bariatric surgery for two years. Occasionally, my husband or I facilitate as well. (He is an internist specializing in bariatrics and I am a psychologist). If you are interested or want more information check out our website www.chslv.com or call 363-6005. We are also looking at starting a structured weight loss surgery therapy group in September with a varied curriculum focused on post operative quality of life and better outcomes.

Congrats on all of your success!

Lindsey

Topic: RE: How is everyone doing?
Hi there, Im new to this website. I just had surgery July 6 2009 so Im almost 3 weeks post op. Im looking for some support group meetings around town and just some nice people who understand what Im going through. Alot of my family has negative thoughts about this surgery and I dont want to get discouraged. I lost 12 pounds at 2 weeks and havent weighed myself again. Im feeling a bit tired and Im already back to work. I think the worse part is that I have a 9 month old son and need alot of help with him since Im not able to pick him up yet. I just wanted some advice from people who went through this!!

Brittnie....glad to hear that you're doing so well. Unfortunately the Nevada board is extremely slow...almost nonexistent. Do you ever make it down to the Vegas area???? We would love to get together with some of our northern sistas.

I just wanted to say HI on the Nevada board because it seems like no one ever posts on here and I wanted to check in with everyone and see how things were going for everyone. I had surgery march 20th, 2009 and have lost 80lbs (including 34lbs pre-op). My surgeon was Kent Sasse from WBI in Reno. Things are good, still having a hard time getting the required amount of protien because I can't stand the protien powder. I'm thinking about checking out the protein bullets and see how those work for me. It would be nice to hear everyone's updates on how things are going! Take care everyone!

Did this walk last year and had a lot of fun. Seems like it's hard to get Vegas peeps out anywhere to show their support. This was a relatively small walk compared to other cities nationwide. There are  vendors at the walk site. LOTS;lots of freebies. And just walking and talking with old and new friends.

Topic: RE: Am thinking about moving to Nevada....questions...
We live in Henderson, Nevada (about 20 minutes from Las Vegas strip).  We moved here from Ohio in 1997.  We love it.

Right now housing is a bargain due to economy.  Job hunting however is difficult--my husband has been laid off for six months.  I hear conflicting reports on schools--some love them, some hate them.   Food costs less here than in Ohio right now---grocery stores are fairly close together so you can shop sales without spending a fortune on gas.

Weather--well of course you need AC and could not live here without it but I do usually have roses still blooming in early December and come back to bloom in March.  I work for the City of Henderson and I think it is a good place to live.  It rains only 5-6 days out of the year so get used to desert landscaping (rock and cactus plants which can be quite beautiful).

This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

Topic: RE: Went to Atkinson's seminar Monday...
I attended their seminar prior to making my decison to go to Dehli, India.  Their cost was prohibitive and my insurance specifically excludes weight loss surgery.  I had a very good experience in Dehli.  If you get turned down by your insurance, you might want to consider this.  Check out my blog all the way back to the beginning in 2007.
