Surgery for Diabetes?

I have fought with "the powers that be" for many years, trying to get the surgery that could help me change my life.  I had really just about given up hope.  That is - until I just now had a "light bulb" moment!!!!! My insurance has an iron-clad exclusion for any type of "weight loss" surgery... but it doesn't specifically exclude surgery to cure diabetes...!!!!  (I have seen several discussions recently regarding WLS eliminating diabetes.) Sooooo - I wonder if my primary care Dr. requested the referral for surgery, based on it being treatment for diabetes... would there be any chance that they might approve it?  

Every insurance company is different, but I've seen people have RNY for many things. I've head of it recommended as diabetes treatment. I had a friend get it approved as treatment for barretts esophagus. I say give it a try!!

Best of luck.  For myself, the WLS certainly cured my diabetes (type II).  I was lucky my insurance covered it and my specialist pushed me into it.  I just wish I had considered it sooner.

I have tried that with my insurance with work. It was denied for me perhaps you will have better luck. I hope that you can make it happen.
