We were out on my sister's boat all day and had not had lunch.  I felt like I needed something on my tummy so I drank a small can of Coke.  I didn't know how I was going to respond and nothing happend.  ($H#*)  I wi**** would have made me dump because now I know I can have them.  That's just one more thing I have to resist.  I don't crave them because I was never a big pop drinker pre op.  I felt SO gulity after I drank it.  No flaming, please.  I just wanted to share my experince with my friends.   Carrie

It didn't feel like the bubbles were attacking you?  I tried a diet Coke before surgery and it tasted awful!

I've had a sip every now and then since surgery-doesn't feel right or taste right any more.  I miss beer....I was never a big drinker but I did enjoy a nice cold one every now and then.  I do enjoy a glass of wine, but a single bandster can't consume a bottle of wine before it goes bad (at least this one can't).

I don't dump, but one glass of wine and I'm loopy-doesn't make sense but that is the way it is.

Carrie - no flame no flame!!  Hopefully no one here finds it necessary to do that!!   I will admit that last week on a date I actually had my FIRST and SECOND Rum & Coke.  I quit drinking quite a while back even before surgery and when I was asked what I was drinking it just kind of jumped out of my mouth - not even DIET coke but the real stuff.  And DARN IT TO HECK - it didn't bother me!  Except the alcohol DID kick me in the pants - but I expected that feature! I only had two and then nursed the water because my face went NUMB, but no other issues!  I'm like you, guilt and mad that it didn't cause any issues.  I know I cannot do that all the time though or I would get the taste and become a pop drinker again.  Thank goodness I pretty much know my sugar limits (for the most part). So hang it up - forget it and move on.  Just MY thoughts anyway!!

Amen Sistah !!   I went to a graduation party last weekend.    Was thirsty and stupid me didn't have water with me.....so I splurged on about 1/2 cup of Diet coke !!    Tasted like metal !!    I didn't like Diet coke prior to surgery either..............but I only took enough to rinse my mouth out from the cotton feeling.................then I tried a small piece of cake  w/o any frosting............I  DIDN'T DUMP EITHER !!   KRAP !!         I haven't tried the liquor yet........I never drank much before the surgery either...so don't miss that at all !!      I miss my regular COKE !!   But  I'm NOT gonna do any regular pop at all   (except 7-up on the apples to keep them from getting brown is all)

  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I don't know if I dump on sugar because I'm afraid to try it, but I dump on fat that's for sure. I miss full throttle Coke...I have an occasional caffeine free, Diet Coke or Diet 7-UP but most of the time I'm on Crystal Light Peach tea. I'm not gonna flame anybody. It's not my place. I'm only a social drinker..or was...and I miss daiquiris and margaritas..I jus****ch everybody else drink them..
