anyone else have the belchies after surgery?
When I drink without a straw, I swallow too much air for my tummy to handle now. I'm the oddball, because it's just reverse for most people. I talked to my surgeon and dietician before using straws consistently, but that's been the only way I could drink without swallowing air and having to burp all the time when drinking.
Also, that feeling could be coming from your swollen tummy and not actually be a need to truly burp.
Take care and let the nurses know if you continue to have a problem.
Thanks for checking on me! I'm actually doing great. I just kind of sit back and go, "Wow...did I really have my stomach removed this morning???" lol I definitely know something is different, just not experiencing anything that is difficult with the exception of the belchies! In the last bit, it's kind of calmed down some. I think I discovered I was taking too big of sips. Oh, and the cold stuff makes me hurt a bit. If it is room temp or warm, it is much better. The hot teas they provide are great. :)
Hope this info is helpful when you have your surgery in a few weeks!!!

Kim----no need to go to truck driving school----just join my family!! I married into the biggest belchers on the planet. Unbeknownst to me at the time. LOL I still have them occasioally since surgery, but they're more frequent if I over eat. I still have problems with any liquids that are too cold and plain water tastes like a bunch of metal in my mouth. Anyone else have this problem? It's easily handled with flavor packets though so no big deal.
