I have had so much trouble trying to get any of my meal replacements down and also protein.  But this morning I finished a meal replacement.  It took over 2 hours but I did it.  I was wondering how long it took everyone else after surgery to start getting in all there protein and water goal?  Thanks again for all the support I could not have done it without all of you on here. Lots of hugs

Heather

Congratulations! It absolutely gets easier to get your stuff down!!! I can vouch for that. It also gets difficult for other reasons later on though. Every day is different. I am having a hard time getting my shakes down because they taste SOOO sweet to me now. But...I'll be at the mushies stage in 2 days, so it will be okay! You hang in there...this is an extremely exciting ride!!!!! HUGS! Liz

Hi Heather, I am so happy for you that is huge! I know I am still trying to get er done to. Still not getting in all the fluids but I can get in at least 2 replacements now. Setting us a schedule I think would help us alot! Getting that first one down does make a big difference. I noticed when I was able to get at least 2 down I do feel better. I hope you are feeling better! I was really sore again last night after a day of thinking ah this is finnally getting better! Got to keep our chins up! Love ya and thinking of you daily! We will see how the tummy does on the go going to look for my daughter a new car or truck hope we find one fast. talk to you soon! Keep up the good work!! I know you can do it! Hey I found the pudding easier to get down sometimes try that! And as Shelly told us use the skim milk for the added protein and the calories when we are shy on them! Talk to you soon Karla

Heather, it took me quite a while before I could get it all in, too! At first, I concentrated on trying to get all my liquids in, then I tried to get to my protein goal, too. I'm still having to really push myself to get my minimum calories in per day, but when I do the scales move!

I'm guessing I was about one month post op before I could really get all my fluids and protein in consistently....and I'm still working at hitting my calorie goals. It's getting a little easier since I've planned out some menus and keep adding skim milk to my Chike, and I make sure to eat something  every 2 - 3 hrs until evening.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Ok, I didn't receive anything that says how much protein I should be getting in at my stage (I'm just shy of being a week post op).  I have had very little protein this last week.  Probably about 1 protein shake total.  I am feeling pretty crappy right now because I am not taking the pain meds anymore and I am weak.  How many proteins and calories should I be getting in?  I am atleast meeting the 64 oz of fluid intake but that has just been from a little bit of broth and alot of water.

The only number i have in my head is 90.  But I know that is our all time goal.  They acted like to me I would be able to get that in.  The sample menu that I have for the first 2 weeks post op look wonderful on paper but there is no way right now that I will acheive that goal.  So I really do not have the answer to your question.  Sorry.

Heather, The sample menu given to you is a guide its not the last testament and will.... When I was a newbie I thought no sweat 125 grams a day can do that easily cause I did it pre-op...well I found out quick there is no way the new pouch would let me do it. It takes time to do the amount we are required so take it easy and look at your manual and see what it says to do. AND IF YOU have questions call the office thats what they are there for...I called so many times after I got home I thought they would hang up on me when they heard it was me...but then I had alot of complications.

The protein you should be getting in was suppose to have been given to you before surgery. Your weakness is caused from lack of protein and you just recently had MAJOR SURGERY! Give yourself a few more days and you will start to feel some better. Are you taking your vitamins and B-12? One protein shake is not enough protein for one day much less one week. SWEETIE GET THAT PROTEIN IN or you will find yourself back in the hosptial hooked up on machines. If your goal is 90 at this stage of the game you should beable to get in half of that a day...you are suppose to do a shake in 30 minutes. Call your nutritionist and ask what your goal is suppose to be.  Don't be afraid to make that call this is your life and if you think you will be embaraased to ask questions  wait till you are in the hospital  then how will that feel....hugs to ya

Ellabear - it is difficult to get in a lot of protein during this phase - however, with that said - if you are weak - and I am sure you are - besides the broth you can do a protein shake now and then - split it up into small portions - to help with your energy level.  If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact the office and get Jessica to help.  That is what they are there for dear!!!  You can also email her at [email protected] (I think that is correct).  Call 1st thing tomorrow and leave her a message if you want to confirm though.   Hang in there!!!!

I was almost three months before I could get my total protein between 50-60.  Dr. G states that there is no reason we need over 60 grams of protein a day.  So that's always my goal.  Now the liquids came faster, I was about 6 weeks when I got all my liquids in.  I slept in my lazyboy for about the first month.  I drank muscle milk, now don't waste your money on isopure, cause it's awful, well to me anyway.  I drank muscle milk about 2 ounces a time, hubby chopped up a banana in it for me for flavor.  I remember craving v8 juice, strange huh?  Anyway, I am glad your doing good, it's worth it and so are you Heather.  Good luck to you. Brenda
