I was watching  The Mirror has two Faces, a favorite movie the other day and I noticed how it REALLY  resonated a lot deeper since WLS. I am a huge Streisand fan. Most of her films seem to have an "ugly duckling to swan" theme. (Hello Dolly, Funny Girl, Yentl, etc.,) I was wondering if anyone else has caught themselves seeing new layers of inspiration/symbolism in movies or books in relation to our personal transformation journey. What movies/books really stoke YOUR inspiration...I showed you mine, now you show me yours!!!!!!

Lisa,

I've got a couple of favorite movies that are inspiring to different aspects of my personality....

"Four  Rooms"...  Feeds my ecclectic side......weird? Yep...I dig it. Reckless creative fun...

"Valley Girl".... easy to feed my love of the 80's....bad acting and girls everyman wanted then

"Kingdom of Heaven".... one man can make a difference with belief in faith and fortitude

Lastly, "Young Frankenstein"....no matter what name you call a man....he can't change the core of who he is....   ahhhh the younger version of Madeline Kahn and Terri Garr.... so tasty... the awesome humor of Mel Brooks, the comedy genius of Marty Feldman, and Gene Wilder's role was surreal that taught us that you can't change a zebra's stripes.....    "why don't you go where fashion sits?  Puttin on the Ritz!"

Hey Lisa-

If you are looking for a truly inspirational movie you should see the Ultimate Gift. I don't know how much it relates to WLS BUT it is incredibly inspiring and has one of the best messages of any movie I have seen. I own this movie and have seen it probably 10 times and cry EVERY TIME I watch it. It truly is one of my favorites. I think it is a book, but I haven't read it. Also, for WLS you cannot go wrong with Rocky...(Or at least the music anyway).... Happy reading/watching...

I don't get to watch many movies any more unless they are disney. Its just easier and I much prefer what my own imagination comes up with when I read a good book. My favorite series of all times is The Earth Children series by Jean Auel.

Clan of the CaveBear
Valley of the Horses
The Mammoth Hunters
The Plains of Passage
Stone Shelters

The main character is Ayla a young child who lost  her entire family during an earthquake to be found and raised by cavemen called flatheads and her struggle growing up as a oddball and being horribly treated by certain members of her clan. The series cotinues through her life from leaving the clan to finding her own place even though she had to travel thousands of miles and endure all kinds of trials and prejudice because she lived with and bore a child of mixed spirits. Her struggles and determination to remain true to herself and to learn new things as well as to help any who needed it is inspirational. I loved the series so much I actually named my daughter AYLA!
