Mild freaking out happening...

At my first psych appointment I was very emotional dragging up my past history based on that I was re-booked for another appointment. This did not slow down anything else. At the second appointment I was signed off for surgery. If your own therapist has okayed it it should not be a problem

I'm worried too - my dr referred me last week so I'm still in the "waiting a lifetime for an orientation date" phase, but I have a long history of anxiety-related binge eating... So the first question I asked my Dr was whether that would disqualify me right off the bat. But he assured me that many, many people who have experienced mood disorders and other types of mental illness get the surgery every day - as long as you are stable in your treatment and they can see that you are mentally prepared for the life changes and the surgery itself. From reading some of your other posts it sounds like you have a lot of support behind you and are ready to make the change - so I bet you'll have no trouble with the psych evaluation and will be on your way to a surgery date soon! :) 

*smooch* Thank you so much. I am so fortunate to have everyone around me 1000% behind me in this decision and I'm so beyond ready to do this it's insane. I am beyond ready for this!!!

P.S. Email the bariatric registry early next week to see if the referral has been received and if they have your hospital chosen. And then wait another week before harassing the hospital to get your orientation date. I did it and they were helpful and kind and my orientation is Monday!!!

Even though its only been a week today since my referral went in, I emailed the registry this morning and just got a response two minutes ago that my file was sent to Toronto Western :D I ony emailed after reading a post by you a bit earlier this month about being proactive and emailing rather than waiting! So thanks for making that post! Now I'm just trying to decide whether I should wait a week or two before calling/emailing TWH about my orientation date, or if I should just go ahead and call today, lol ;)

I wouldn't leave a message, just keep calling until you get someone live.  Be as nice as you can, and you never know when they can slot you in because of a cancelation!  I got almost all of my appointment moved up at TWH by doing this.

Thanks for the info :) I did call this morning but they said I will get a letter - basically don't bug us, just be patient ;) I think once the orientation is over with I will definitely be taking the route of calling for cancelations though!

Yep, they will give you that response, but I would still keep calling every few days to see if there are cancelations, even for the orientation!  You never know!  Just tell them that you know it's unlikely, but you are available at any time so just wanted to check if there were any openings.  I got my orientation date before ever getting a letter from them by doing this!  Just be really, really nice about it. I waited like 3 days. I found out I was referred to HHRH on Friday and I was calling Monday:) And then Tuesday when they hadn't emailed me the Monday with the orientation package. ;) I will be kinda annoying calling them , but I figure they're used to it;)
