Thank you for your comment. Keep up the good work yourself!!

Yes I am well aware of supplementation actually. My bone loss has not changed since year 2 so I am not osteoporotic.

Congratulations Dawn. !!!
Ostopenia sucks, but sometimes the decline can be stopped or even slowly reverse.
Most docs don't tell you that, because frankly most of them really don't know any better. Even the ones that should know.
Just taking calcium, even the good one, may not help much. The bones stricture if much more complicated than that. We also need magnesium, often as much as Calcium. And other essential minerals like strontium, boron, etc. Small amount, but still without them the strong bone matrix is not going to happen.
To absorb Calcium and Magnesium, we need the proper structure of them, plus a good level of Vit D3 to help absorption. I strive on my D to be 50-70. Not too low, not too high.
Calcium Citrate is supposed to be good for us, but there are other forms that can be also good. Magnesium is a different story- most magnesium affect the bowels: oxide, citrate, malate, etc. There are other forms of magnesium, like glycinate - that suppose to be better for absorption.
BUt once you are able to absorb the minerals - specially calcium - you may need to supplement vit K2. Vit K2 is critical - it tells our body where to put the calcium and other minerals.
Just taking calcium and be able to absorb it - can backfire, if the body start putting it in veins, joints, muscles... causing calcium build up. WE NEED K2 to dirent the calcium to the bones.
I am 59, I had body DEXA scan done app 3 years ago and recently. My bones density was and it is very good. At my age, and considering I don't take a lot of calcium citrate, but I take a lot of magnesium and vit K2. I take Mag oxide/citrate to help with my BM, and I take mag bi-glycinate, and mg malate to have for my bones and muscles.
I take larger dose K2 in dry form (K2 is fat soluble and even dry form i know I malabsorb even now, 11 years post op.

Happy Friday everyone :)
Last night was my gym night and the trainer worked me pretty hard so I was starved after and grabbed a takeout burger .... bad bad( I skipped the bun at least) Tonight is another workout but I'm packing in some big protein so hopefully that will help out. The only plans I have this weekend is a hair appointment tomorrow and cleaning some floors.
B - protein bar
S - peel & eat shrimp, sauce
L - chicken skewers, salad
S - turkey pepperettes
D - protein shake
S - rye toast & PB

Wow Thursday already! After a holiday it seems like it's catch up for a few days. I have no big plans today except for hitting the gym after work.
B - egg bites
S - 2 slices turkey
L - chicken skewers, cauliflower
S - sweet potato crackers, roasted red pepper hummus
D - protein shake (after gym)
S - yogurt with part of a peach

I just joined OH a few minutes ago. I saw your post and wanted to tell you that I think it is great that you know how important your health is, with these struggles.
When my Mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia (66 years old), I was at my highest. I think around 290. I had gained 170 pounds over three years over stress. About a year after her diagnosis I had RNY surgery in Washington State, where I was working. I am glad my Mom, who died at 68, was able to see me lose 100 pounds. She could say few words, but one was "beautiful" after I lost 100. I am so glad I did the surgery then, because I am afraid I would have continued gaining with stress eating.
It is almost 20 years since my RNY. I kept off that initial 100 for about 16, even lost another 30, but it crept back up. I still had maintained 90 pound loss, so I felt pretty happy about that. Now, I am back on track, and I am down 105 from my highest. I am going to the gym for or five times a week. I am incredibly healthy. I feel great. I really want to lose 25 pounds this year, then I will be at a healthy BMI
Good luck. You have to take care of you, or you will be no good to anyone!
Sounds like you're not far behind me in the pipeline. :)
What I mean by the slowdown is that hospitals typically reduce elective surgery time over the last 2-3 weeks of December/first week of January because so many people book vacation time around then. It's pretty common for there to be very restricted (or no) elective OR time for a week or more. Obviously emergency surgeries still go on and they maintain a certain amount of staff, but it's reduced from normal.
At this point I'm just waiting for my consent appointment then my pre-op and pre-op nutrition class. I don't know how long I'll have to be on optifast, if at all. My liver wasn't particularly big.
Hi ... thanks for replying.
I have updated my signature line with the dates set for my dietician and social work appointment.
Dietician is Sept 9/19, an Internist Oct 10/19 and Social Worker Nov 6/19. I also have to have the endoscopy done locally and that consultation is November 8/19.
So maybe I'm looking at late December? ... when you say slowdown over the late December period, what is that? I suppose few people want to be doing the Optifast for Christmas Dinner ... lol. Difficult during the holidays to do the process but hey, if that's the timing for me, then I will make it happen.
Good luck with your surgery. You must be getting excited.

Stick with it! You can do this.
I'd try taking off my clothes and standing sideways in a mirror to remind me why I'm going through all of this. Think about how unhealthy you feel and how you long to have more energy for a better quality of life.
If you are as far through the process to be on Day 4 of Optifast, I'm sure you can do this. Don't ruin it now.

I think that almost two years without everything you mentioned is quite the accomplishment. Why break the cycle now for champagne?
