Anyone else from Eugene or surrounding area???

Hey everyone!  I'm from Eugene and have been on just the general RNY board for a while and it's kinda exhausting, lol, it's such a big board and hard to keep up with!  So I thought I'd stop by a smaller board.  I'm from Eugene and curious to see who's from around here too, and who maybe had the same wonderful surgeon as me!  Anyway, I hope to get to know some of you! 

Hello ShanJ, I am in Eugene and have just got active on OH. I have RNY scheduled for 4-28-08.  I am excited and a bit nervous.  I have found some good podcasts on iTunes that has given me some great info and a sense of community. I have not told many people that I am having the surgery.  Most of my Family (Brothers and Sisters) don't know about it.  RG  

Oh wow, I'm RIGHT by you!  I'm actually in Harrisburg, but it's just easier to say Eugene because lots of people don't know about Harrisburg, LOL!  So I usually just say Eugene, but I see you're from Junction City, so I KNOW you know where Harrisburg is!!! I didn't tell many people either at first.  Just my parents and brother, my best friend, and my husband, of course, lol.  But, as time has passed, I've been more comfortable about it and have told a *few* more people.  Like maybe 2, lol.  I don't like telling many people, so I understand where you're coming from.  It's not that I'm private about my life, I'm not, I guess I'm just a little too prideful, as awful as that sounds.    But, it's worked out well for me. Are you having your surgery done at Sacret Heart?  By Dr. Yarbrough?  I had mine done by Dr. Umbach, but he moved to a different practice, so my check ups and stuff will be done by Dr. Yarbrough, but I haven't met him yet.  If he's your surgeon, do you like him?  Anyway, I'm rambling here, but nice to meet you!!!  Shan

There are quite a few of us here from Eugene area.  I too had Dr. Umbach.  Dr. Yarbourough is a kind and sensitive man from what I have interacted with him.   I think I will enjoy getting his input and feedback through my follow  ups.  Nice to see more of us "eugenians" around! Tara

Hello, Well I am from Cottage Grove, I am living on the road with my husband he is a traveling electrician. But we are heading home here in a few weeks...Yeah!!!! But I will start the process of getting my surgery underway as of June 1st when I go onto medicare. I had to be considered Disabled for 2 years before I  qualified for Medicare. I am having my surgery done by Dr. Yarbourgh, (i think that is how you spell it) in Eugene... it sounds like in the middle of July. I will be so happy for it to happen.

Welcome to the Oregon board!  Glad you found us! I am near the OR/WA border but have visited Eugene a good number of times.  I have several relatives living in Eugene.  I was in Eugene three times last year: the first time to attend a funeral for my cousin's son last June; the second, to get together with several other OH members in Springfield and to see my uncle for the last time before he died the next morning; the third, to attend a funeral for my uncle.  The second and third times were last October. My youngest brother is a U of O grad and a proud Duck, as are 3 of my cousins. I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, May 14, at OHSU in Portland and have a consult with my surgeon next Monday, April 14.

There are a whole bunch of us from the Eugene/Springfield and surrounding area here.  We even have our own support group.  The next meeting is April 30, 6-7 p.m. at the Market of Choice, 29th and Willamette Streets in Eugene.  Hope to see you there! Linda

Well i was born in eugene if that counts!!! I moved with my mother to the netherlands antilles.... but my father is still from Corvallis and owns Ray's Fruit stand ( previously known as jims fruit stand) and i go there to visit alllll the time...and my family is from albany and newport and places like that Well im an oregon raised girl mostly so yea... Glad to know there is a smaller board here on OH its kina nice ;)
