stomach troubles

Hi Everyone,

This is the first time to post here, and I am hoping some one will have some insight.

I started on soft foods on Friday.

Here is the issue, Saturday I spent in the bathroom.. Sunday I went back to liquids,  Monday I ate lightly.  Today again I had an URGENT trip to the bathroom.
I have a pain in my lower right side, which almost feels like a stitch from running or something.

Its kinda scary.   I am leaving Friday for Florida and I am afraid of being in a car for 20 hours,
Can I take immodium?
Any ideas why this is happening?  Could this be something bad?
I know I' m not drinking enough either.
I hate to call dr. office when it may be something common.  I am just over two weeks out.

Thank you!

Joanne

Not to be gross but when you "go" is there an oil slick on the surface of the toile****er?   That is an indication of too high a fat content in your food.   OR  w/ sf/ff products you will be getting sugar alcohols, (maltitol, lactitol, sorbitol); this early out it only takes a little of those to give you explosive diarrhea and/or constant runs after eating those products.  Are you also having a very noisy belly? like there's an alien in there?    Give the doc the best description you can of your poop.

If you are heading out of town you may want to call your doctor and just double check with them. Better safe than sorry, and I wouldn't worry about calling them with something common that is what they are there for. It would surely be worth the peace of mind for you.

call your doctor you are so new out that anything like this you should discuss with them.
Also that long of a drive so early out make sure you stop and stand up you do not need blood clots

First off - Nicole has a FABULOUS point - you definatley will need to take a LOT of stops with a ride like that.  Every two hours or so minimum would be my suggestion.  And when you are sitting in the car, make sure you DON'T cross your legs and make sure you "tense" your calf muscles and move your legs around as much as possible.  Earlier out from surgery = higher risk of blood clots.

As far as the bathroom thing goes - it could definately just be your system getting used to food again.  Plus, with being on liquids for so long there probably wasn't much there to get out - so now that you are putting stuff in...you're getting all the "leftover" stuff out.

All that being said - you definately need to call your doc and get the answer from them.

Good luck!

Pam

Oh, and I forgot....

were you using milk/yogurt based things before this?  It's possible with all the dairy you listed you are developing lactose intolerance?  Common after surgery!

Thank you everyone for your answers and concern.
I talked to the Pa today and she thinks it could be a couple things.
Including lactose intolerance, and my stomach just getting used to things.  My tummy isn't making as much noise as it had been. I think the sugar alcohols sound a little like my issue to me.  no oily stuff here though..
Dr. U and his pa know about the trip and gave me their blessing, and also told me to get out and walk every two hours or so..
Julie (PA) thought I should actually advance my diet a little, and suggested that I try wendy's chili, some chicken, soft veggies, and cream or veggie soup.
I have always eaten yogurt, and 2%milk and cheese.  Hopefully I will be able to tolerate these things again. From what I understand this can be a common problem after surgery.

Again thank you all!
Joanne
