How am I doing?
I have my surgery with Dr. Pupkova in 13 days. I'm on a protein shake for breakfast, protein shake for lunch, sensible dinner diet. I just wanted to check that I did okay for dinner.
1 grilled chicken breast (size of palm) with BBQ sauce
1 medium bowl raw spinach, red onion and mushrooms with 1 tbsp fat free dressing.
I think the BBQ sauce and dressing were probably bad, but I held out all day. I passed up the free donut when I got my decaf coffee with splenda and skim milk, I had my protein shake when the office took the order for the breakfast sandwiches and I sat at my desk and sipped another while my office went to California Pizza Kitchen. This is my first day dieting so drastically, but I need to drop more weight pre-surgery. I'm just nervous whether or not I'm doing it right.

You don't mention how much weight you need to lose before you surgery. I think that 4 ounces or a deck of cards is the size of chicken breast you need to eat. The BBQ is okay this time but it tends to be high in sodium and could retain water if you are not careful. The fat free dressing is okay on your salad. Make yourself a big salad with free vegetable servings like cucumbers, mushrooms, lettuce and onions. I think you did great by avoiding the donut and not being tempted to order breakfast sandwiches and going to lunch at california pizza kitchen. You are well on your way to joining us on the loser's bench. Keep drinking water and don't be afraid to use crystal light if you get tired of drinking plain water. I know you will do great and keep posting here. You are in good hands with Dr Pupkova she was my doctor and she is AMAZING!! Please feel free to PM me if you wish. I work for Nutrisystem and can help you with any weight loss counseling/portion control questions. Also have done every type of diet there is so I am the original DIET QUEEN. LOL..

I need to drop 9lbs! It's not that I haven't tried, I've just fluctuated all over the place. I'd lose 4 then gain 6. What really hurt was the six pound gain was right when I started going to the gym again, so it was a huge ego deflator.
I didn't even think of turning to veggies when I was starving yesterday! LOL! I already have some cucumbers sliced in my fridge.
As far a water intake goes, I thought I was going to float away yesterday. I had 2 8oz protein shakes, 2 Blender Bottles (28oz) full of Crystal Light (1 packet at a time), 3 filled with water and took my medicine at night with 4oz skim milk. It's fairly safe to say that I stayed hydrated.

at giant they have sugar free BBQ sauce... and most fat free salad dressings are high in sugar... so start reading labels now... if you can find them things made by walden farms are fat free and sugar free... I know my giant carries their products... you can also order them online from their site...
each Giant seems to have these items in different locations... at the main one that I shop at the salad dressings are in the old stoage area in the salad greens area... like other dressings that have to be cold... and then sometimes they are on the shelf like normal dressings...
The BBQ sauce is sometimes in the little sugar free area or with the other BBQ sauces... if yours doesn't have these items have them order it... they have a supplier... so go here to look for what you want and ask them to get it- http://www.waldenfarms.com/
It sounds like you're on the right track... keep in mind you can have raw fruits and veggies, steamed fruits and veggies, etc.
Be careful with the BBQ sauce... it can be high in sugar (check the ingredients and make sure the sugar is less than 2g per serving). This is a great time to start kicking the sugar habit, so you don't go through as much sugar withdrawal later.
The dressing (unless it's also one that's high in sugar) is fine. You can also look to olive oil and balsamic, oil and vinegar, make your own dressings, etc. The salad spritzers (sprays for your salad) are also really tasty ways to "size down" your calorie and fat intake.
Sounds like you're doing really well! Keep in mind that you can "dress up" those protein shakes with the great "full liquid" recipes from your Barix Bible to make them more satisfying. Adding half a banana and/or blending it with some ice cubes (in addition to your skim milk) can make it a lot thicker and creamier.
Hang in there - the next LESS than 2 weeks will fly by!

I think that today I'll try adding a snack of veggies in the late afternoon. I got through the whole morning and most of the afternoon alright, but I was STARVING by dinner time!
BBQ sauce didn't even cross my mind as being bad until after I ate and my hubby told me about the sugar. That was a disappointment, but now I know not to do it again. I usually do red wine vinegar and olive oil for dressing, but in all honesty, I didn't feel I could handle the amount of vinegar I usually like last night. I think I'll give the salad spritzers a try.

I think that sounds TOTALLY awesome and you are doing a FANTASTIC job.
I was only gonna say something about the bar b que sauce...but really...that's minimal. As far as the salad dressings being high in sugar...yes..that's true...but most "serving sizes" on salad dressings are 2 tablespoons...which I don't end up using (Note: Pre surgery I probably could have used a straw and a glass to "drink" my ranch dressing. Now, it's much more reserved) so honestly, I don't pay attention to the labels on things like that. If I use a few teaspoons, that's a lot.
Good for you! Take it one day at a time! And good for you for passing up all the temptations in your face today. That in and of itself is a feat!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Pam,
I know what you mean about the dressing. I was that way up until a couple of months ago when I first started to try losing (for about the 100th time LOL).
Thanks so much for the vote of confidence, you're all so great on here!
