Ran into a slight glitch for surgery

Today ran into a glitch for my surgery, it might not happen on the 14th.

When I arrived at my PCP office today, he met me in the hallway and told me he'd just gotten off the phone with my surgeon.

My liver enzymes are elevated too high (I forget what he said they were, I didn't write them down and do know I suffer from CRS). Of course all the normatl questions from the PCP, have I traveled out of the area, have I had any sexual contact that might be questionable, have I gotten any recent tat's, did I in the past use IV drugs.....No to all those questions. Then we started on my meds, I did have that sinus infection a couple weeks ago so was taking tylenol for the pain in my head, ok that can elevate the liver enzymes. I did forget what over the counter meds I took for it, but did go through two boxes, and had the blood test for the surgeons office taken while I was still taking the tylenol and sinus stuff. So might be from that if so that will be a good thing

So from the PCP office straight to the lab to have 10 viles of blood taken today, and have to see a specialist on the 26th. We decided I'd make the appointment with the specialist now and have it so that if all the tests come out ok this time I can always cancel. If the labs come back again elevated my PCP said I might have to have a liver biopsy. I do know what that involves, a co-worker had that done while he was in nursing school so I got all the details on how it's done - personally I'd rather not have those visuals but he enjoyed talking about that stuff while he was studying for all his exams

This sucks but I want to come out alive so whatever they have to do to make that happen is ok with me. Today's visit has made my surgery date a tentative set for the 14th awaiting results from the blood test and this added dr. visit.

Keep me in your prayers

Ida,

I am sorry to hear this but everything happens for a reason. You have the positive attitude and that is half the battle in my way of thinking. This will happen even if you have a few bumps in the road.

**hugs**

Hi Beth,

Thanks. As many bumps as I've encountered what's a few more. I'm so thankful that the doc's are so thorough and check into everything before proceeding.

I want to be healthy and alive when this is all said and done.

Thanks for your support

Definately a good thing this was found. I am sending thoughts your way. Hope the tests come back OK, and surgery goes as planned......

Ida,

It's great to know your docs are being so thorough and so careful.  And you're focusing on the right thing - getting out of this alive and healthy!

I hope that you're right and the elevation was due to the sinus meds, so you can proceed quickly through everything! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!

Karen,
Thanks, I kept telling Gene that this was all going way to smoothly yesterday when we got out of the pulmonologists' office Guess I spoke to soon. But yes, I do like how thorough they are, it takes alot to make me feel safe and this makes me feel safe knowing that they are looking out and making sure I'm alive and healthy at the end of this road.

Well I second, third, fourth...whatever it is at this point what you and everyone else has said.  At least they are being thorough and making sure you are as healthy as can be for this.  Hopefully it's just the tylenol and sinus stuff that elevated things...and if not....hopefully they get to the bottom of whatever IS causing it very quickly.

Oh - and don't listen to much to your co worker.  Us nurses and nursing students love to go into details that may not necessarily be true for everyone else, LOL

Hang in there and keep us updated!

Thanks Pam....My co-worker is no longer here, he passed his boards and works @ Christiana Hospital now.

going through the nursing program with him was very helpful and insightful in so many ways for me. I loved hearing about his classes, clinicals, etc...However it made me realize that I love people but can't be a nurse to anyone other than Gene and my kids

I love that my doc's are so on the ball taking care of every part of me

You know my liver enzymes were elevated a while back and then 3 months later they were normal. I know you don't have 3 months, but maybe they'll be back down for you soon. Hope all works out for you!
