All ready I think...lol
Hi everyone,
First, I just wanted to say thank you again to each and everyone of you for all the support throughout this journey. The decision between lapband and the gastro bypass was challenging, but I am confident that with all the research, that I have made the right decision.
You guys are sooooo educated and smart, and I really do appreciate all the help.
Unless, I get a call tonight, my surgery is scheduled for 1:30 pm tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 11. I am on a liquid diet today. So far, not to bad, but I am a bit hungry. i have been having mostly broth. I hope the week of liquid following the surgery is a little easier than today since my stomach will be smaller. I hope.
I thought most surgeon's like to get the more complicated surgeries done first. Mine likes to do them last. I hate having to wait around in the morning pacing. I would rather wake up in the morning and be knocked right out......oh well, it is what it is. :-)
I will send Liz a text to let everyone know that I am ok.
I am just starting to get a little bit nervous as my rattling shows, thinking about the pain, the cathedar (more painful for a guy I think) and the IV.
I think I have packed everything I need. Just have to take a shower in the morning and go.
Thanks again everyone.

You sound well prepared and are going to do great!
Trust me - you aren't going to mind the catheter one bit 1) you will be pain medicated up (and they put it in while you are out) and 2) the last thing you are going to want to do is get up to pee right after surgery!
I too was the last surgery - I ended up getting to the hospital like 45 minutes early and the night before I kept myself up as late as possible hoping that I would sleep later in the morning.
Talk to you on the other side!

Rattle on. I know that helps. My sister that lives in Alaska just sent me a copy of the e-mail I sent her at 3 a.m. the morning of my surgery. It says a lot about my state of mind and how well I was prepared. Just as you are. Good luck tomorrow and we will be making room on the bench.

P.S. That 3 a.m. e-mail was very long and got really goofy and sappy at some points. Janet may be in Alaska but she is still my best friend. It helps to express your feelings so go for it. We are here for you.

Whoo hoo!! Can't wait to hear the good news from Liz later today!
Are you having open or lap bypass? If it's lap - you might not even need the catheter - my surgeon didn't put one in.
Either way - you'll do GREAT!!!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Deep breaths Geoff! You'll be on the bench sipping and walking in no time!
I knew you were having the bypass - the question regarding the catheter is normally if it is "open" vs. "laproscopic" meaning...do they make a big incision across your abdomen to do the bypass or if they poke 5-6 small holes in different areas on your abdomen to use instruments to do the bypass that way.
If it is "open" (one large incision) chances are you will have a catheter in place
If it is "laproscopic" (multiple tiny holes) chances are you won't need a catheter.
Godspeed my friend!
