Update on my appt
OK so I met with my therapist for the first time last night. She is very nice and I have another appt next tuesday evening. SHe is very casual and laid back but seems very knowledgeable. She is much more into the alternative approaches then the conventional which I think I am going to enjoy.
Thank You all for your advice and support - I was a bit nervous going in there last night but she made me feel instantly at ease.
Last night was mostly just a "get to know you" event. She didn't rush me at all infact I got there early and she took me right in - our appointment lasted well over the hour "session" I was scheduled for.
Thanks again everyone!

That's great Liz! I often think about finding a therapist... you know me black or white. Glad you felt a connection and that you felt at ease.

Hi Liz,
I agree with everyone that connecting with your therapist is extremely important. If you are uncomfortable with anything make sure you speak up and are very honest. You are the one paying for the service and never be afraid to switch to a new therapist if you aren't getting out what you expected.
One peice of advice I can offer up to you is that whatever the issues are, focus on the present and future. The past is done with and nothing we can do about that, so no point dwelling.
I had a very tramatic childhood, robbed at gunpoint, tied up in stockings, attempted kidnapping and was an abused child to just touch the tip of the iceberg.
It took me many years to get to the point of letting go of things, but somehow I got there.
I hope all goes well with your sessions and you get everything out of it you want.
Take care.
Geoff
