My First Barix Post-Op Support Meeting...
HI!
Wish I had known you were there... I was there and would have loved to meet you.
I was introduced as a "temporary" leader - just helping them out for the day and was working with pre-ops, and was wearing black leggings a black turtleneck and a peach "flowy" overshirt. I sat in the "second row" in the middle aisle for the second half of the meeting.
I do understand how difficult social anxiety can make things. My husband has it and one of my daughters, as well. A couple of suggestions might be worth thinking about for future meetings...
1. Message someone on the board who you're comfortable with online and meet them before going into the meeting (even meeting them in the parking lot). We'll be happy to do that and can introduce you to a couple of folks so it's not so overwhelming and so you don't have to walk in alone.
2. Put your real name AND your online name on your badge. For a lot of folks online here, those names bear no resemblance to each other (Pennykid = Julia for example - not picking on you Julia - just the one that leapt to mind!)... so if people see "Ataraxia" on a badge, we'll instantly recognize you from OH!

I understand how overwhelming the meetings can be. I still feel that way, and I'm a volunteer leader. I remembered you from having met you at a pre-op meeting many months ago. I agree that it can be hard matching avatars with real-life people, but speaking of which, you should update yours! You definitely look different than you did in that picture.
Keep coming back. It does get easier, honest. :)

I was totally there and came up to you during the break - I was there with my hubby and one of my daughters. I was also the one *****ad the by-laws in what I was told was my "teacher voice." I was thrilled to have met you and hope that there will be time to talk more in the next few months! You are doing sooooo great! I am thrilled that you came even though it is not a comfortable situation. Good for you! :)
Yeah - I was the one in gray slacks and a greenish long sleeve top with some cleavage (I LOVE MY GIRLS AGAIN!) I read the part of the by-laws with Shauna's son following me - I tried to make some bad jokes about my students.....Sadly, it is what I do! :) I was sitting facing the window - and had to turn myself around to see the people who were speaking in the beginning. Does that help?
