Turkey day accountability

Ok, folks - time to "fess up"...  after all, accountability is a major part of this journey.

So today wasn't awful for me... I did my nutrition tracking and got my butt to the gym this morning.  Planned my dinner to include many options (most options, actually) that were WLS-safe.  However, I had a lot of challenges with portion control, picking after the meal, and "balancing" things appropriately.  While I stayed pretty much within my nutritional goals per tracking and stayed with the WLS-safe foods - I don't feel that I was  totally honest with myself about portions tracked.  I don't like that I really couldn't control going back for "seconds" on a few things... I don't feel "stuffed" like I did after other thanksgiving meals, which is good... but I definitely feel "uncertain" and a little un-confident right now.

The day was good in some ways - the Skype session with the florida relatives went well and the meal tasted fantastic.  The nj relatives finally arrived after 3 pm (said they would be there at noon), and SIL was on her better behavior. My mom got herself together and socialized a little bit - only got *****y a couple of times.  But there were some real moments that had me looking for comfort in food... managed it pretty well, but BOY was it tough.

Ah well - tomorrow is another day and I really don't feel that I screwed up TOO badly today.  Another lesson on the journey.   This was the first "biggie" since surgery... now I feel christmas and new year's will be manageable and it will get somewhat easier from here out.

So how did you all do with today's challenges?

Hi Karen!

I'm sure you probably did better than you think you did today.   You planned WLS-friendly dishes and exercised today, which is good.  And tomorrow is a brand new day, when we can all work to make better choices.

I didn't exercise today, but I did pretty well with food, I think.  I took a tiny bit of most of the dishes, but I didn't finish everything.  Some things, like stuffing, weren't as good as I anticipated.  Mom made a baked corn casserole, using Splenda, and I think it was my favorite today.  When I found myself picking at things left on my plate, Paul took my plate away.  (I asked him to do it so I wouldn't stuff myself.)  We never did get to the desserts, most of which were sugar free.  (I brought pumpkin bread and pumpkin ricotta mousse.  Looks like I'll be enjoying a slice of that bread warmed up for my breakfast tomorrow!)  This was the first Thanksgiving that I can remember not being stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable.  And I have to say I was happy just eating small amounts of each thing.

All in all, I think I did ok today.

I had portioned out an ounce of turkey, 2 oz butternut squash, a bite of stuffing, one deviled egg.   The rest of today was coffee with protein powder, lunch = 1/4 cup taco meat and cheese, Nectar fuzzy navel.

My faults = Two bites pecan pie and 2 bites of pumpkin pie  (both SF but still had those calories in it)

Additional faults:
picked at turkey, picked at peanuts did not portion it out and did not account for it.

Hi Everyone,

All in all a pretty good day for me too. I know I ate some things i should not have, but I tried to stick with protein first. I had a VERY small spoonful of everything that I wanted and had a nice helping of turkey, skipped the bread and butter which was good.
I did have a small piece of cinammon bread (not SF) and it was good, but i stopped at a bite. We had about 10 different desserts, one of which was SF that I had a piece of. While I was cleaning up, Andy and I were talking about how much more we would have consumed in turkey days past. One thing we both agreed on is that we were satisfied and did not feel at all deprived or have one minute of regret about having this surgery.

One thing I could have done today was exercise, I did not offically exerecise, but I am just now sitting for the first time today, does that count??

I hope you all had a great day!!
Christine

I was pretty good today.  I went out this morning and did my 5K training.

Other than snacking on some sort of yummy chips she had out, I did ok.  Turkey, a bit of corn, green bean casserole and a tiny spoon of mashed potato.  Then, the dessert.  Of course, being at Shauna's all but one thing was sugar free.  I had a sliver of TO DIE FOR chocolate cake, a sliver of pumpkin pie and a choc chip cookie.  OK, so the desserts were not the best choices, but I only had a little bit when I wanted sooo much more.

All in all I think I had a pretty good day.  I got in a lot of fluids before I went and stopped for 16 oz decaf on the way home, so even though I drank nothing at Shauna's I did get all my fluids in,too.

Let's just say...   My buttons on my shirt won't stay buttoned today...

I was the cook, and did a lot of the cooking ahead of time, which was good...  but gave me a lot of time to snack on all my appetizers that I had made...

Spices Nuts,  Ham and Cheese ball with crackers...  and the WORST THING I COULD HAVE DONE....   was make eggnog.

I drank that eggnog...  and drank it... and drank it...  until I felt absolutely sick.   For dinner..  I had a small amount of turkey, and a little mashed potatoes, a little stuffing..  and a few other sides.  I was good at dinner time!  Then for desert...   I made a bunch of different pies... and cookies..  And I was GOOD!  didn't touch it...    what did I do instead??

Drank eggnog.

BAH  Oh well..   looks like I'll be eating very very lightly the next few days to recover.

Hopefully my shirt will stay shut while I'm at work, and I don't lose my buttons!

:)

I did OK yesterday too. we had appetizers for lunch - roasted shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms so no problems there. For dinner I had some turkey (I do eat the dark meat because sometimes white meat irritates my pouchie), a sppon of stuffing, a spoon of mashed potoatoes and green beans. We waited quite a while before dessert - we also ate very early, around 2 - for dessert I had a sliver of sugar free pumpkin pie and a sliver of sugar free peanut butter pie.

I didn't feel well after dessert but don't think that I over did it food wise. I do find that since being pregnant the more tired I get the more nauseous I get. We got home around 5 and I had a slice of toast around 7 and was in bed by 8! lol

Now this morning on the other hand... I did cheat and had probably one of the most non-WLS friendly foods ever - a bacon egg and cheese on a biscuit from McDonalds and a hash brown. I was standing in line at Kmart and it was all I could think about -so I figured what the heck... I can't tell you the last time I had one and I know I won't have another for a looooooooooooong time!
