I don't see Barix - I have been in constant contact with Dr Brader's NUT and have been meeting their guidelines. I might send her another e-mail today to see if she has any additional tips.

Thanks!

Liz - lots of good ideas have already been posted, so I don't have a whole lot to add there.  I hope you get things regulated soon.  Good thought and prayers coming your way.

Liz,

Hang in there... pregnancy does such weird things to a body...

Some ideas -

Make shrimp salad with greek yogurt as the basis for the dressing.  Likewise with chicken salad (getting a double-dose of protein that way).  You can add a little celery (for fiber and taste) and sea salt to either to get some extra stuff in.  I also tend to chop some grapes or cashews and add those to my chicken salad when I want the extra "crunchies."  Virtually no "bad carbs" to worry about triggering reactive hypoglycemia if that's what's going on.

of course, protein shakes and protein ice cream (did you see the mint choc chip one eggface posted on monday? sounds awesomely good... and the mint would be soothing for your tummy, too!)

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Hugs.

Thanks Karen.

Protein powder and I have a hate/hate relationship! lol I don't like the stuff. Do you know if the GNC in Doylestown carries the MAX protein in chocolate? That's the only one I have ever tasted I didn't despise.

I've checked that GNC several times and they've never had it!  (the one near acme?)  Grrr...

You have to eat like a diabetic, but I think you know that.   Those are the guidelines you were given, btw.    Protein with a small carb.   Thus peanut butter (fast burning .5 hr) with cracker (slow burning 1.5 hr).  Don't add in fats like butter, add in proteins like chicken salad or shrimp salad on a cracker...eat 2 every hour.   If you feel faint like that again drink 4-8oz. milk or oj w/a little water or take 2 splendas and rub the crystals on the inside of your cheek.   You can keep those or a little tube of cake icing in the purse, that's what diabetics do.  Your sugar will rise almost immediately as the saliva mixes w/it (but it won't be sooo much the sugar will hurt your pouch).   You don't need a HUGE rise, that will just give you a crash and you'll want to sleep.  You're in the homestretch!   How exciting!!!!

Thanks Jackie! My Mom said that this was going to be my "third trimester hurdle" lol I feel a little better today eating almost constantly. Still a little out of it but better!

I am not a fan of protein powders either...however...the premade EAS Advantage lite shakes in strawberry or vanilla are actually REALLY good.  The strawberry one tastes like strawberry quick, no lie!

Sounds like my DIL when she was pregnant and had gestational diabetes. She had to see a specialist off of Emrick Blvd.

I would make up some protein cookies and pudding... they are a great snack and a good mix of protein vs carbs...

My OB told me to eat French Fries and baked chips to help with my low blood pressure... and to keep the mini M&Ms with me for my blood sugar bottomed out...

I was eating every 2 hours at work... and I kept a stash of sugar free chocolates to help me poop lol... one a day helped that lol...

I would also keep at work some ready to go protein drinks... get the low sugar kind.. not the sugar free...

another great snack... learned this when i had GD with Lore... 2 tbsp of raisens and 20 peanuts 1 carb serving and 1 protein serving...
