We are currently using two forms of BC in our home because obviously im VERY fertile. I am on depo right now and I go to the GYN on Weds to get my date to have my tubes tied. How effective is Depo? I was trying to find information about it online? but nothing for how effective after gastic bypass. I have been gettin my period VERY irrregular since get the shot now the past 4 weeks nothing!! Im starting to freak out alittle bit but im hoping we have been safe enough. Im sad to say my baby days are over!! 3 babies is very much enough for me. Any advice??

Dont freak out with the Depo shot it does slow and may even stop periods all together.  The shot before surgery is 99.9% effective.  I am sorry I do not know after surgery though.  I think your probably safe.....

My gyn says that the depo is very effective after wls.  Unfortunately, it also caused me to stall since September.  He believes that my stall is definitely due in part to the depo.  Your periods will be very irregular.  When I was on it preop, I did not get my period at all, ever.  It was soooo nice.  When I went on it, post op, I had some sort of bleeding constantly.. I still freakin' do even though I've been off it since December.  Now, it's my body getting used to the IUD.  I should level out soon and hopefully my periods will stop again.

but you make such cute babies!

Not sure - but I would imagine it is just as effective post op since it is given in an injection and not something we have to absorb in our pouches/new intestines

I'm gonna go with Liz...it's an injection so you are not having malabsorptive issues is my understanding.  And yes, it is almost "supposed to" stop or at least decrease your monthly friend, and irregularities are common
