OT - Prayers and positive thoughts needed (yes baby and I are OK!)
Just got a call from Chris. His Dad was taken to the hospital on the verge of a diabetic coma. Chris described it as a "vegetable" like state. Kenny Chris' brother is there now with their Dad. Chris is at work. I guess they have talked about him not pulling out of this. If he does the Pastor from the church is working to get him put into a nursing home.
For those of you that don't know the story his Dad had a stroke, well really MANY strokes in June of 2008. He discharged himself from the nursing home in early 2009 and refused to go back loosing all insurance coverage that he almost had paid for by the state. He has nothing - no pension, no social security (too young), no disability - NOTHING. He hasn't been taking his medications again (which is what got him into the situation in the first place) and smokes up a storm.
I am trying not to let this stress me because of the baby but ce la vie - you know how it goes. I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers you can spare for Chris, Kenny and their Dad.
Liz
PS - so what's #3 - so far this week we have Pam's brother and my FIL...

Oh Jeez - you guys really don't need this right now! Tell Chris I've got tons of prayers coming his way (and your way, of course!)... And if he needs to go up to his dad's and you need to come here "just in case" to be near the hospital, you're WELCOME to... Katie's room is all ready to go for you! I can even come pick you up! Just call me (anytime - night or day - you have my cell).
And I guess I'm #3 - my mother-in-law was taken to the hospital last night "unresponsive" and has reached a point where she can't get out of bed, feed herself, or handle her own hygiene. My sister in law (who she lives with) responds by screaming at her that she's "being lazy" and needs to get up and move and care for herself. Obviously not a productive OR kind approach, but this is the SIL with major problems of her own. Sigh. We're going to try and work with the social worker at the hospital to recommend that she be discharged to a nursing care facility that can help her with physical therapy, rehab, and provide the level of care she needs. That will undoubtedly involve a major fight with SIL, but it's what needs to be done. MIL was a bit better today, now that she's more properly hydrated, but with congestive heart failure and having been laying in bed for a week or more, there's a ton of fluid in her lungs. She's so weak that you can hardly hear her speak. Very tough to see, for a tough Queens, kick-ass woman.

Thanks Karen - I really appreciate it!!
So sorry to hear about your MIL. My brother-in-law is an enabler to his father too - it's been a fight and I finally thought that he was on "our side". Guess not if meds weren't being taken. I try to stay out of this and Chris tries to keep me out for the baby's sake. I may have to get involved this time as I am the voice of reason and getting it done! Don't tick off a pregnant lady!!
Thanks again and good luck to you too! Hopefully my FIL's next step is Neshaminy Manor...

Sorry to hear that your family is having a rough time right now also. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as well. It sounds like your MIL needs full time care and nursing home placement would be the best thing for her. I know how difficult it is to watch a "kick ass woman" fading and ill. Take care.
I feel that my mom lived through four years of her illness and four major surgeries and four bouts with different chemos all becuase of prayer chains, laughter and people around her......Her oncologist said the same thing! It really does work!!!!!! I think it works becuase you feel better about yourself and therefore have a higher rate of healing.
