As I said in previous post I have been having issues with my knee, they found out that it's the patella in my knee I was going to PT for it but it's not helping I was told to stop exercising because it's making my knee worse. I had 3 shots in my knee along with 3 rounds of steriods pills to try and take the swelling out of my knee all done with no luck it's still swollen and I from all the meds they have places me on have caused me to gain weigh! I now have to see an orthro doc to see what he can do to help me. Also after the way I was treated inPT I stopped going to them plus I was not beging help by it! I'm going to start working out on my wii enought is enough now I need to start living the good life again! I told both docs my suregon and my pcp enough is enough one pissed cuase I gained weight and ME TOO I AM TOO SUPER MAD I told the other one enough with the steriods all they are doing is putting wieght one me and the not working out is not helping me I can't take it no more I have to get back to the life that I have been living for almost year sorry had to rany

Can you go to a different PT place?  I was extremely dissatisfied with the first PT place I went to.  Then I started at a different place and it really worked - I don't feel like it is a waste of my time.  Just my thought.

I feel your pain so go ahead and rant - this kind of stuff can drive you nuts and you have to be your own advocate to get better - insist on seeing different doctors or PT's if you're not getting the relief and results you need because it is a viscious cycle - you can't work out so you gain weight - you gain weight and then the knee hurts worse - and you end up beating yourself up about it so you eat more. Trust me, I've been down that road.

I would think they could fix the problem with orthroscopic surgery if nothing else - cordizone shots only last so long - PT can harm more than it helps if it's not being done correctly. I went thru the shots, steroids (they'll make you gain weight), Synvisc shots (OMG they hurt!), then finally a NEW surgeon I saw did the orthoscopic and I had immediate relief and it lasted quite a while - sadly for me my knee was really too far gone and I did end up with bi-lateral knee replacements, but if I had listened to the first surgeon I went to I'd still be hobbling around.

Take care and rant away - that's what we're here for. But try to get into another surgeon or specialist - I know there is someone out there who can help you get thru this and get that knee better.

I understand how frustrating all of this is.  But if they are telling you NOT to exercise - for goodness sakes - don't!  Not even on the wii  If you cause more damage you are looking at a more extensive treatment/heal plan.  Once you are off the steroids, the weight will come off.  Many times it's water weight related to steroids.

If you really want to exercise...any chance you can do something like a pool exercise at a local community Y or something like that?  Non weight bearing would be best - and the wii is weight bearing.

Hang in there and get second opinions AND second opinions from different PT places if your insurance will allow you to

My PCP did everything that he could do for me and PT I think that I have to go to the site whereI work but I'm going to check on that one. I'm goign to see the orthro doc who did my first knee operation which was the maniskis in my knee two years ago we have no local y here or anything like that/ the closest one would be allentown for me. I'm working full duty at work wearing knee brace on it to protect the patella/
I'm now also no naprexon which makes me gain weight and want to eat as well.I know that the weight will coem back off too I'M THINKING of following the sb diet till I'm off all this meds or something. I would love to get bike and start to ride it but I can't right now I would also  love to walk I think I can handle the walking part becvause I do that I work.

Naproxen shouldn't cause weight gain...it's an anti-inflammatory...it's the active ingredient in aleve.

Nicki,

So sorry this is still ongoing for you...  just a thought that might help with part of the frustration.  Yes, some medications DO have a tendency to increase appetite and/or water retention (and steroids are big culprits in that).  You, however, don't have to "give in" to that and eat more.  Now, more than ever, you should be paying close attention to what's going into your mouth - journal, measure, weigh your food to fight the effects of the steroids.  AND, fight the water weight by increasing your water intake and keeping a close eye on your sodium intake, all of which helps keep the kidneys well activated and helps flush out the water retained by the steroids.  In other words - take control of your own body!  Don't let those darned steroids derail you!  And do not let this whole situation become an excuse that your "addict brain" (my term for it) can use to derail you either!

SB is a great nutrition plan that works well for us WLSers... don't just THINK about it - DO it!

And I second what Pam said - follow your doc's instructions to the letter... and if the PT you went to isn't working for you, go to a different PT or facility.  Find one that DOES work for you.

Just take it a day at a time.  You're strong - you will get through this.
