Topic: Date is almost here
My date was moved up to 11/11!  I am so excited to be joining the  losers bench!  Anything I need to know before I take the leap of faith and enter this wonderful journey.  The liquid diet thing sucks and the protein shakes I can live without, but I am making the commitment to do this right!  Thanks for any advice!  I will coming to the meetings soon!

Thanks

Topic: RE: first support group tomorrow
Hello Erica!  I have only been to one of the support groups at RIH but it was a casual atmosphere.  There is usually a topic each month and I think the November topic is actually a fashion show of sorts.  But at the meetings people ask alotta questions etc...its definitely a good thing to attend and get to as many as you can.  I have been bad, only been to 2 total, but thats was due to work schedule and such.  I am determined to get to more of them.  My wife and I are planning on attending RIH tomorrow so maybe we will see you.  Also, I used Dr Roye for my surgery.  He is FANTASTIC!!!  Definitely in good hands!

Hi Kim,
Good luck on your up coming surgery. I too had Surgery at Miriam. I had a very positive experience as well. I am also a nurse and VERY critical of nursing. So I would anticipate you will have a satisfying stay. The only complaint I had was the barium swallow 1 day post op. I believe there would be an easier/less painful way! And the tech's didn't know we can't use a straw and only sip small amounts, I had to tell them everything. And they were going to use the carbonatede drink first I had to say NO............

Hey, Jared!

I'm with Eldy here, I'd see a mental health professional first.  It sounds as if you have some eating/comfort issues that haven't been discussed or resolved.

Then get to your nutritionist! He/She can help you find foods that satisfy you and hopefully that will stop you from grazing.

Have you tried keeping a food journal?  Once you see everything going into your mouth, it might give you a reason to stop grazing, too.

And lastly, get to those support groups!  I'm sure someone is going through the same thing and with all the people that attend the groups, we can brainstorm and give you some ideas that you think would work for you.

I'm here if you need to chat!

Hey Jared,   sorry to hear you are having a tough time.  I do think that going a Psych would be your first option.   I keep hearing that the surgeons operate on our stomachs, not our heads.  Most of our issues are in our heads.  Then after starting there, you might want to see your nutritionist.  But that would be secondary.  My guess is, you know what to and what not eat.  Its in learning to find out why and how to change the emotional eating.  Its a big issue.  You are definetly NOT alone with this.   Good luck.  Maybe you already know a good therapist, or maybe someone here can recommend one.  Good luck and we all want you to succeed!     Eldy

In the coffee aisle.  I also buy them online at netrition and have found them at tj max and marshals.  I also believe starbucks sells them too.

so, seems that since im about 8 months out, I seem to be doing the " Grazing" everyone seems to talk about.
Whats worse, is I can eat ANYTHING... and i do mean anyhting. Nothing makes me sick.  i really wi**** did..
i Really have NO willpower, and its killing me.. I afraid Ill go back to the way i was, and its only been 8 months.
im sure others have this problem, and my question is,  do you think going to someone  a pshyc would help me with this ?  I seem to have alot of issues, that im not able to talk to my wife about, and unfortuantly, she seems to create alot of my problems. or im afraid that ill hurt her and our family talking about these issues.

Thanks all, I know I can count on you all to help me and get my ass back on track !

Hi Brian,

I flavor my greek yogurt with 1/2 a packet of crystal light!  I can get all kinds of flavors and never eat the same flavor over and over again!

1/2 a packet is enough because they do get sweet if you use to much!  Adjust to your own liking!!

Good luck!

Jenn
