Not too many people have been around lately, but I wanted to say "hi". You might check out other WLS specific site here on OH -- they can be a mix of the good, bad and ugly. On the upper left of this screen, click on forums, then surgical forms, and then pick what you are interested in. It's a great way to do your research.
Best of luck to you!

Topic: New here..
Hi, How is everyone doing? Im new to the forum. Ive been looking for a site like this for some time but must have overlooked this. I have a few questions about how to get started in finding a doctor and all. I just got off the scale and i've hit 270, and just seeing that gave me instant depression. I try so hard to be 'healthy' but apparently it hasn't been working well. A friend of mine had GB surgery, but we lost touch so i thought this would be a nice place to learn and hopefully make some friends who understand how i feel. Please feel free to message me or write back to talk. Sorry if i sound a little corny..lol, Ive never really written in a forum before. Thanks so much for reading.

Topic: RE: First letters to UHC - Wish me Luck!
I hope you do not take me as being Debbie Downer, but I used to be in underwriting at a major insurance company, and if there's an exclusion, it doesn't matter how many letters you have, you won't be covered under that policy.
You could have lung cancer & if the company says "we will not cover lung cancer treatments" then you wouldn't be covered for that either.
The policy can be changed, it has to be done so by your employer, and usually only at Open Enrollment, when changes to the policy are made on an annual basis.
Your company would have signed off on the recommendations made by UHC based on how much they wanted to pay per employee, or as a whole for the policy. Certain companies exclude coverage for certain conditions as a cost-saving measure. Believe me, as much as you want to blame UHC as the big bad insurance company, ultimately it was your company that decided not to cover the procedure.
