Topic: Appointment tomorrow
So I have a follow up appointment with Dr Roye tomorrow.  I will be 3 days short of 4 months and cant wait to get on the scale at his office.  As of the other day at the gym, I am down 101 pounds since last May, so I cant wait to get the official" number, not to mention my first lab results since surgery.  Anyway, I cant wait, thinking I am not going to sleep really well tonight.

Mia, it is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL TO BE SCARED!!  You are going to be going through a life changing, major surgery.  The thing to remember is that there are 1000's of people that go through major surgery ever single day and everything turns out perfectly fine for them.  You will be fine as well, and to answer your question, yes I was scared before the surgery as well.  It was so much days or weeks before the suregery for me as it was the morning of.  I asked my wife to drive to the hospital and that is unheard of from me, i always drive b/c i always want to drive.  Then I remember laying on the bed in the pre-op area and crying telling my wife i was scared and nervous.  And here I am 4 days shy of 4 months out and down 85 pounds since pre-surgery weigh in and down 101 total since May 2009.

Just remember the reasons you are doing this, for a better, longer life and to see your children grow up.  You will do just fine, just stay positive and focused!  Good Luck

Dr. Amaral is no longer in practice. Dr. Ng is a thoracic surgeon, You want either Dr. Roye/ Dr. Ryder or Dr. V. (Dr. Harrington, Ng, Ryder and Roye and Dr V. work for University Surgical Associates in Providence, so they are all covered under your plan) They are now located out of Colliyer Street.

I already feel  better. It is not easy but it is worth it. Come to groups and keep loggging in here. Thats what helps me keep going. It is so good to have so many people on your side:-)  Good luck you can do it we are all here for you.

Topic: Calorie counting
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any tricks they can share when it comes to counting calories. I went to see Dr. Pohl and he gave me a # to try to stick to. It is not difficult, but what I find so darned frustrating is that I keep going back to the same foods...maybe it is because I know their caloric amount. I would love to expand some different foods and flavors, but am not to sure in what direction to go. He did mention something about a group starting up concerning calorie counting, but I haven't seen anything about it yet.

I did go to see a nutritionist, and heard some really good advice. Think of every hour like 100 calories (not that you eat every hour, but if you eat every 2 hours, then keep it under 200 calories, and if every 3 hours, then under 300) seems like that would work, but what happens when dinner seems to run into the 500's?

I really would like to look at volume verses denseness of calories, including high protein to keep me feeling fuller longer. I eat alot of salads (with very little dressing...measured!) and I am making sure that I get at least 65g of protein a day.

If you have any food suggestions or ways that you overcame the calorie counting frustration, please pass it on!

Thanks so much! Sorry I won't be there at the next meeting...I am going skiing...never been in my life before as I was always too heavy...so this is a NEW adventure for me!!!

Living life and LOVING it!
