This probably isn't the first time, nor will it be the last, that this question has been ask.  How long does a post-op have to take Biotin?  Is it forever?

Hi! Technically you don't "have" to take biotin as a post op, but it's a great supplement for hair and nails.  It doesn't prevent anything and your multi-vitamin usually has enough for any minimum daily requirement. I've been taking 5000 mcg of Biotin daily for nearly 10 years now, pre and post surgery, just for general hair and nail health. Hope this helps,

I stopped around 6/7 months out... I had barely any hairloss and it stopped by the end of 5 months... I realized I was spending a fortune on razors/shave gel so I ditched the biotin :-)

Biotin is one of eight essential vitamins that comprise the B-complex. Biotin works with other B vitamins to make healthy cells and convert carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into energy. Biotin is also known as the vitamin that produces healthy hair and helps prevent graying. Biotin is a widely used ingredient in hair products due to its hair promoting properties. Biotin increases hair cortex elasticity , prevents breakage, and thickens hair cuticle.

Thanks, I am taking one a day for women, would that be enough biotin or do you need to get a B vitamin on top of the one a days??? Thanks for replying to me, I hadn't heard of this and I am a little concerned about hair loss :-) have a great day Anita

I started taking Biotin and Folic Acid before surgery and still take it. I have baby fine hair so I didn't really need to lose any volume of hair. Glad to report I have not lost a strand. It is an option of whether to take it or not. It is cheap so I will probably continue to take it. I also take a B-complex. B vitamins give energy and I need all that I can get. Good luck vickie
