I'm SE Asian, so of course, my tolerance for rice and pasta is very, very, very high.

I am able to eat both at almost 8 weeks out (with my doc's blessing).  However, it is a side note now and not the main dish for me like it used to before RNY.  I will try and eat all of my protein first, and then maybe have five bites of pasta or rice at the end.

Good luck!

Hey Wade, if you don't mine me asking.  why did you have the operation.  It doesn't look like you weighed very much to begin with.

I think Wade Barker is the physician/surgeon.  The user name is right above.

Let it begin with me.

Hi!  Wade Barker is the name of my surgeon : )

I am a petite 5'2" Asian woman, and both of my parents are diabetic in their 50s and 60s, as are most of their siblings, cousins, etc.  I became diabetic in my mid 20s (I'm now 36), and no amount of exercise (I was training for half marathons and sweating my pores out in hot yoga sessions) would help me lose the same darned 15 pounds.

I was injecting about 45 units of insulin a day, as well as taking Avandamet, high cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds (the last two for preventive measures).  I was just really sick of it...so I turned to RNY as a way to get my diabetes in remission.  I figure the risk was worth it if it added another decade or two to my life, as well as not worrying about if I might need a new liver or kidneys down the road.

I am almost 8 weeks out and have not needed any of my meds since week 1.  My labs all came back normal last week, and my A1Cs were hovering at 6.5....PERFECT!

Wish you the best of luck on your journey!  It has been a great experience for me...I haven't had any problems whatsoever so far....but I had a great surgeon to start with :)

I just ask for my dish without rice, pasta or bread.  I haven't been out yet that wouldn't do that.

My surgeon/program says no rice or pasta and I was not a big fan of them prior to surgery - so I just skip them. I'll eat chinese, thai & indian food without the rice, I'll make pasta dishes (lasagna, ricotta bakes, etc) without the noodles. Sometimes I'll have quinoa as a side dish.

I've pretty much cut gluten out of my diet since I started this process and I've felt great since. I try to focus on protein, protein, protein, veggies and fruit.

I eat brown rice and dreamfield's pasta.  I can't eat very much of it, but that's OK.

You may want to give this a try.  I like them and order them often.  It seems to fill my need for pasta and rice.

Whenever I eat pasta, I can be guaranteed that I will have the most obnoxious gas you can ever imagine.  It's a fact for me.

But I love it.

At my birthday dinner the other night, my sister prepared my very favorite meal:  spaghetti with her world-famous red sauce.  While I didn't eat a tremendous amount of the 'sketti, I did eat some for dinner, and had another modest helping for breakfast the next morning (HEY!, I said I loved her 'sketti!).  Anyway, I had to spend the remainder of the day outside - in stiff wind - just so that I wouldn't knock myself out from the stench emitting from my backside.  It really is that bad.  Truly.  Just ask my husband.

Anyway, despite the known negative consequences of me eating pasta, I still do it occassionally, keeping in mind that I absolutely, positively cannot be around any other humans (or small innocent animals - even rodents****il the pasta leaves my system.

And I was eating Dreamfields, supposedly more friendly to the system than ordinary pasta.  And I still reeked.
