They say rice is bad for us and you can't eat pasta after surgery.

Everyone's plan is different, I eat rice with no problem, I just make sure it is brown rice. As well as pasta, I just eat whole wheat.

How much can you eat?

If it is strictly a pasta dish with like a meat sauce, usually like 1 cup. If the rice is with other foods, like meat and veggies, probably a 1/2 cup or less.

I haven't tried this yet but this is what I plan to use to replace rice.

There are other recipes out there if you just do a search for cauliflower rice.  You can also ma**** for mock mashed potatos and one recipe suggested chopping it a little bigger to replace pasta.  I am also going to try zucchini strips to replace pasta and there is spaghetti squash to use to replace spaghetti.
There is a low carb forum here that will probably give you more ideas.

In Chinese or Mexican I just skip the rice.  Mexican you can get double beans usually, but I end up taking them home because once I eat the meat, I don't have any room left.

Chinese is a favorite now.  I love cashew shrimp.  Shrimp is a nice protein and you get some from the cashews and they have the good fat.

Your focus is always protein.  Protein protein protein.  You will quickly find in the beginning that once you have eaten what you can of your protein there is very little room (if any) for things like rice and pasta anyway.

Quinoa (high protein) if I absolutely have to have something.  Otherwise just veggies.

It's a personal choice of mine to not eat rice or pasta, but then I never was really big on eating it pre-op either.

Initially, yes. But I've had rice within the page week or so - no problems at all. In fact, it's an Indian style rice with a bit of spiciness. No problem at all.

It's an individual thing. Once I took Wheatena and it made me throw up for hours!!!

Everyone is different, but I can't tolerate more than a bite or two of pasta or rice, so I skip it all together.  (Otherwise I run a very high risk of it coming back up on me - sorry if that was TMI).

I love Mexican restaurants.  I have fajitas (no tortillas, sour cream, or rice).  There's always enough leftover for several meals!
