EXERCISE . Help me please.

Perhaps exercising with a buddy (buddies) would be motivating? Look into meetup.com and search for exercise groups in your area that you may find interesting (walking, circuit training, boot camp, yoga, etc). They are usually free, and if there is a fee, it's usually minimal. Hope you find the motivation you are searching for.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the posts. it is really nice to read and feel support. I am MOSTLY making all the right choices. I am ALMOST doing everything right...but after doing it all right and then I started to feel like it wasn't working...I guess thats when I started giving in to some bad choices. I had the thought of "Im busting my hump and working so hard, logging everything, measuring everything, following the rules, and it's not working" It's only the past couple weeks that I have occasionally made the wrong choices. It's not every day. But still, in the very beginning I was too afraid to eat anything that was bad. I don't know why I am letting myself do it now. There is a psychiatrist in the practice but she doesn't take insurance. I would actually love to try some counseling but, in the past I have tried. The insurance company just gives you some random names and none of them have any experience with eating issues so, after a consult and waste of time and co-pay, I am left without anyone to talk to.  Anyway, I came here to get exercise advice. I already know what I am doing wrong...just trying to figure out how to change that and get some more motivation.  As for exercising issues...here they are.  1-I don't feel safe to walk around outside alone and don't have anyone to walk with me. I feel like it is INCREDIBLY BORING but thats not the reason I wont do it. 2-The gym in my complex, which has been my plan from the beginning, has been closed for renovations. They said it would be open first week of january...but yet, I am still waiting. 3- I don't want to spend the $ on a gym membership because hopefully the one in the complex will open soon. Also money is a bit tight right now or I would just join the gym AND pay a trainer to get me started. That actually is how I got started after my lapband surgery. Started at the gym with a trainer and then just continued on from there. I wish they werent so so so so expensive!

It's really easy to find excuses not to do the things we know we're supposed to do.  Sometimes we just need to do those things anyway.

I read your initial post and your replies to some of the responses you got and I just want to share a few thoughts with you. Sometimes therapy has to start within...You've come so far, you went from a band to bypass, you're fighting the good fight to stay on plan and struggling to find an exercise plan that you'll enjoy but it seems to me (and this is just how i've perceived what you've written) that you may be looking at this all from the wrong perspective, like it's a chore or a task that has to be all about sacrifice and limitations. The fact is, this is something to celebrate and a positive mindset has a powerful effect on the body. You made the choice to have the revision to improve your life. REJOICE! CELEBRATE! Be proud of your decision and commitment to yourself. You're measuring and counting and tracking your foods, but are you ENJOYING planning your menu? Having fun with finding creative ways to prepare or try new foods? It can be an adventure instead of a dull chore or difficult task. Looking at it as a lifelong change of new adventures with food rather than a lifelong diet of restrictions gives you a positive perspective and allows you to be mentally and emotionally in control instead of at the mercy of food, which is what put many of us in need of WLS in the first place. And its the same with exercise, it isn't necessary to look at it as something that HAS to be done but rather as something fun that you want to do. It doesn't HAVE to be 30 minutes in a gym on ANYTHING. A brisk pace in the Mall with frequent slow downs to window shop all the cute outfits you'll be trying on soon is just as effective and puts you in a motivated happy place. But you don't even have to leave the house, you don't have to worry about what you're wearing or what other people think. Just turn on the radio, turn the tv to music channels, plug the Ipod or MP3 player into a speaker system and make like Tom Cruise in "Risky Business"! Dance...Dance...Dance! It doesn't have to be Zumba, it doesn't have to be coordinated or even in perfect sync with the music, it just has to be a celebration! Do it because it's FUN.  If it gets your body moving and spikes the heartbeat up even a little, then it's exercise! But it's also a celebration. Sing along with the music and just enjoy yourself. You're whole life is changing and it's going to be better because you started this journey. So why on earth can't you ENJOY it?! You're empowered with knowledge, you're applying that knowledge so you can have a healthy life, but you need to LIVE IT! Go ahead and allow yourself to LOVE it. Be proud of yourself and forgive yourself for the past that lead to WLS. You've moved beyond that and you've shown you're willing to make all the changes, but the most important one, the true catalyst that brings it all together is changing the mindset, the perspective. This isn't a chore, a burden, a task you have to complete or a lifelong sacrifice. This is a new beginning and it's FREEDOM! You've set yourself FREE!!! It's about giving yourself the ability and permission to take this new path and have fun along the way. You got the surgery and a nutritional plan. These are your tools, but how you use them and what you create with them is up to you. Be creative and have fun doing it because the best part of life is that you get to live it. I dance with my vacuum cleaner! You can dance up and down a couple of stairs in the house (if you have them). You can do jumping jacks in short spurts during commercials while you watch TV. The key is, do it as a celebration of your victory rather than as a tedious requirement written on a plan. Have some fun researching creative recipes, plan your daily menu, and enjoy the preparations and sampling different foods because trying new foods can be it's own fun adventure. Challenging yourself to find new healthy recipes that are tasty and meet your dietary needs can be a huge boost to your self esteem and make you feel empowered (and  they are always appreciated when shared on this site by the way)!  I think once you start taking charge of your new life and living it, and as you see and feel the changes in your body as the weight comes off, you'll find that other ideas for ways to exercise will just come to you and eventually, you may WANT to get into the gym or take some classes, but don't do it because you think you HAVE to. Find ways to be active that you'll do because you WANT to, because they make you feel HAPPY or are just plain silly fun! I'm not kidding about that "Risky Business" dancing in your socks thing! You don't need to bust your hump, just enjoy and Bust a move! You have nothing but time. When you wake up each morning, don't let yourself think "how am I going to get blah blah grams of protein in today and my 60 oz of fluids, and 30 minutes of exercise and ..." Instead maybe you get up and think " I wonder what new way I can find to cook that chicken, what song should I sing in the shower that I can shake my soapy booty to? I wonder how that raspberry lemonade crystal Light would taste if I make it a slushy with some ice in the blender? Today I think i'll park as far back in the parking lot at work as I can and see how many steps it takes to get to the entrance..." Not a chore, but a challenge or adventure to see what each new day can bring and what new idea or event can be sampled or celebrated because you decided to wake up and LIVE life. Okay, so my few thoughts were REALLY long ones, but I really hated seeing the dejection in your posts and wanted to offer you a different perspective. Wishing you nothing but success and happiness with your WL journey!

StacyJO, your post brought tears to my eyes. I will save it as a motivation for me. I love your perspective. I love the angle you are coming from. I am going to read it over and over.   Thank you for taking the time to send me all of that encouragment. I am inspired by all the posts I have gotten in response to my issue. I have been looking into several different options for physical activity. I want to find something fun that I look forward to.

I need to tell you I have copied and pasted you post for future motivation.  I am just starting on my journey and you have made me look at this entire prospect in a totally different way.  Thank you soooooo very much for that.  I will be reading your post many times in my future I predict.

You have the Internet, and YouTube has lots of free exercise stuff. For example, search for Leslie Sansone. There are more than 30 videos up there which are all designed for walking inside. She's not condescending and the pace varies. I'm not in great shape so it's good also that there are choices of mileage. And when I get tired of her music I put on my headphones or

even a movie and mute her but still follow the video steps 😉

also, I too admit to dancing around the house in my underwear. I'm a really bad dancer and it's fun. Maybe dance with your kiddo for extra fun.
