I believe it was called Spanish Flu because Spain was neutral in World War 1 and thus did not have military censors. The first reporting of the flu was in Spanish media.

OK - sorry that I'm beating a dead horse here, but I was thinking more about this while taking my morning virtual jog through Crete. I'm pretty sure everyone (at least in most of the world) has heard of the Black Death. It's been featured in many books and movies and has been talked about *a lot*. And I would think that with all the recent comparisons of COVID to the 1918 flu, most people have heard of that, too. But prior to COVID? I have cousins whom I'd be surprised if they knew about the 1918 flu (i.e., pre-COVID). Or if they'd read about it in school, they would have long forgotten it. Things have come up in conversations with them that have frankly made my jaw drop to the floor - worse things than not knowing about that flu. Nothing surprises me anymore...

btw - it's great to see you on here too, Cynthia. I've been missing so many of the old-timers lately!! (old-timers meaning people who've been regular posters who've been on here for several years who've more-or-less dropped off - or don't post regularly any more -not that they're old!!)

No beating yourself up Cynthia. We all go through spells and as far as I can tell there has been a lot on your plate these last couple months. I know you will figure this out and we all will be hear cheering for you. When the gyms closed I started a walking routine that has led to a running habit. If nothing else a good walk can be spiritual and you may meet a new neighbor or two. Good luck. Your in my prayers.

What a great picture and you two are sort of coordinated with your stiped summer shirts. I am definitely going to come and visit you in Florida. My niece is in Navaronne. I will stay with her and drive to wherever you are living now. As soon as things feel safe enough to travel.

I will have my second vaccine on March 2 and the doctor tells me I will have 95% protection two weeks after that. So I should be able to travel this summer or fall.

Have they given you any indication on how long to expect the protection to last? I haven't seen much about that but the closest I can think is the guidance that if you've been exposed to covid but are asymptomatic and you're two weeks post second shot but not more than 90 days post second shot you don't have to quarantine. I know very few people have been fully vaccinated for that length of time so I know a lot is still to be determined!

That is the last I have seen as well. I think the CDC is updating the guidelines as they learn new information and they just aren't sure.

Nobody knows yet. My best guess is that it will be like the flu and never go completely away but can be avoided or there might be a yearly vaccine for it.

Good Morning! What a perfect day for you to start the thread, what day is it?!?! HUMP DAY! Today is Em's behind the wheel test!! She's so nervous and hasn't told many people in case she fails it. She?ll be bummed if she has to retake it because the DMV is so booked it'll take awhile to get another appointment. If you all could spare a good vibe or prayer thrown her way she'd be grateful. Hubby is supposed to FaceTime me so I hope he remembers.
