Question for the LADIES

This is an extreamly personal question but I figured I would ask anyway. I have been having problems with my monthly cycle. I have very very long cycles my longest one lasted 53 days straight, and it seems as if I am going through it all over again this month. I have gone to an OBGYN but she tried to get me to go to MD Anderson. I called the Dr. over there and she said that if I was not diagnosed with cancer that she would not see me. So I have basically been getting the run around from my doctor. I don't know if she just doesn't want to deal with me because I am so over weight or what. So does anyone know a good OBGYN that would help me or should I just wait until after my WLS surgery (I am just waiting to hear back from my insurance) and then start dealing with this issue.

Can't help with a doctor but you definately need to see one that will take you seriously. The blood loss alone could drop your iron stores so low they may postpone your WLS. You can always ask your family physician for a referral. Good luck. Steph

Good Morning Zakiya, I would call your GYN back and let them know what MD Anderson has told you. Let them (your doctor) know that you NEED this problem to be investigated~ Has your doctor ran any test on you to find out why you are bleeding, do you have a history of bleeding problems, fibroids??? I would ask for blood work and an ultrasound to see WHY you are bleeding. IF this doctor can not see you for any reason, please look into seeing another doctor. You need to be your voice in today's medical field, you need to speak up and tell the doctors what you want, remember YOU chose them, YOU basically hired them, and on the flip side you have every right to FIRE them!!! I wish you all the best with this and with your WLS love & hugs Mel

once I topped 300, I started having this problem.... no cycle at all for several months, then the cycle from hell that lasted for 3 months... again and again.... finally got my HMO to send me to a specialist and she basically said that since fat cells store estrogen, the monthly ebb and flow of hormones to trigger a cycle was all screwed up.... it remained that way until after WLS and then it smoothed out and I became as regular as when I was a teenager...... Good Luck! Karen 356/200/???

Time for a new dr. They probably wont do the WLS if you have some outstanding health issues. I would definately get a 2nd opinion.

Find another OB/GYN, sounds like your doctor isn't willing to investigate why which is sad. See if your PCP can recommend someone or get from your insurance company a list of docs on your insurance and start calling. Best wishes! Dana

Hi! I had that problem during perimenopause and menopause. I thought I would be 80 and still having cycles. But my cycles were lasting three weeks a month, sometimes more. When I went to see my Oby-gyn, she suggested something called the ablution procedure. Basically, they use some form of a balloon to stop the blood flow. I would have done it, but my husband said no way.Since I don't usually listen to him, I was surprised when I agreed with a partial hywterctomy. They found that the bleeding was coming from fibroid tumors that no one ever found. Surprise!!!! Ask your doctor about these things. Ask her about an early menopause. If you don't get answers, it is time to change MDs. Good Luck, Bobbi G.

Dr. John Durst in The Woodlands is phenomenal. He has several Gastric Bypass and Lap Band patients. He knows what we can and can't take and is very knowledgeable with medication; he used to be a pharmacist. His number is 281-363-4450. I love him and his staff. Gina

I'm not sure if I'm in the same boat as you or not...but I had my operation in August. I started having my period problems in December. I started on december 8th and it didnt stop until jan 21st and after several different trips to a few different doctors, we changed my birth control to the ring. well..all was well until last week when I started again; 1 week before I was supposed to remove the ring to have my period. So now Im still going, and I am scheduled to take the ring out sunday to have my regular period. I know that a significant weight loss can cause you to have a continuous period, but this is out of control. I am so sick of it! I it so frustrating. Luckily my boyfriend is the most understanding and supportive man in the world or I think we would both go insane. AHHH!
