Two Week Post Op - Feeling Great, Down 19 lbs
Hi Everyone,
Yesterday, I had my two week follow up with Dr Barker. He said that everything is looking and sounding normal. He did kid me about needing a few more complaint lines on his form. I just wanted to make sure that everything I was feeling was normal. It was. Glad to hear that . According to his scales, I was down a total of 19 lbs so far. Yippee!!!
The office finally gave me my release notice to go back to work. I was actually very excited...finally!!! I start back on 2/12. I am not looking forward to the long days, but I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of my normal life.
He is such a wonderful doctor. He has definitely been much more personable in the follow up appointments. I think that before the surgery he just wants to let everyone make up their own mind and he keeps a real business/professional type attitude. Once you are on the other side, he is definitely very personable and seems very genuine in the success of his patients.
I love his whole staff. Every one of them always have a great sunny disposition in their attitudes, even when their offices are jam packed. You can tell that this comes out of their admiration for working for Dr Barker. When I watch him talk to his staff thru the windows from the lobby, you can just tell they he is such a down to earth, compassionate person.
Anyone who is considering WLS, or has family considering weight loss in Dallas should seriously visit with Dr Barker. I have had my mom, my mother in law, my sister, my niece and my husband all mention how nice Dr Barker is. All of them have been with me either at an appt, at the hospital, etc. and have visited with Dr Barker.
Well, I just had to post my moment of feeling GREAT! The best I have felt in the last two weeks.
Thanks for the support on this board too!!! This has definitely cheered me up when I was feeling buyers remorse. I am really enjoying getting to know all of the people in the Texas Forum!
With warm thoughts,

Dana,
Thanks for the wonderful encouragement. I am so looking forward to the good days. I can't wait til I feel a little more comfort in knowing what I can eat safely, but it sounds like from TMB, anyone can have a bad day here and there. I am doing better with water intake today. I almost got in 20 oz. It's been a struggle for me due to the pain in my chest.
Thanks again for the support,
Lindy
Thanks so much for your post. I had a nightmare with a lapband 2 years ago and just consulted Dr Barker this week about removal of the band and conversion to a RNY. I was very pleased after meeting him and feel like I have made the right choice. You are absolutely right about his staff...what a happy group of people!! They think my insurance might have an exclusion for WLS and they don't know if it will pay for the revision part. I have put my fate in their hands and hope they can get it covered. But in the meantime, I will live vicariously through people like you. Congrats on an excellent start to a whole new you!! Steph
Steph,
So sorry to hear of your nightmare. I am really glad that you are seeking help from Dr Barker. From what I hear, several people come to him for revisions. In fact, I met a lady in the lobby on my second consult on Dec 22, 2006, that had very similar problems, if not the same as you. She was glad to hear I was doing RNY.
I wish you the best of luck with the insurance, I know that can be stressful. My twin wants this surgery, but her insurance has an exclusion also.
I am sure our paths will cross again soon, if not here on the board, maybe in his office or in one of the support meetings at Doctor's Hospital.
Have a great day...I will be praying you get the answers you need to get back on the WLS track you so desire.
