**I posted this on the main board as well but thought SOMEONE here may possibly be of help too!** I had surgery on April 23rd. Everything initially went ok then I started having pain when I ate or drank. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. They did a scope and found that I had a stricture and 2 ulcers. They fixed the stricture and gave me Protonix for the ulcers. I was ok for a few days and then I started getting pain again. So I was getting pretty dehydrated because I literally could not handle even water because of the pain. So I was admitted again, this time for 9 days. They did a scope after two days of being on IV Protonix. No stricture and they said the ulcers were healed over. I had xrays. Fine. I had an u/s. Showed enlarged spleen (he wasn't really worried about this....he said it was just a number??) and liver (guess that's normal since I'm fat). I had a swallow test. Fine. The surgeon decided to do an exploratory lap and remove my gall bladder at the same time. He found a bunch of adhesions and scar tissue and removed those as well. So I was on Morphine AND Darvocet after that surgery and low and behold, I could eat and drink little bits at a time. I thought I was going to be fine and I finally went home on the Protonix and Carafate this past Monday. Well the day after getting home, I guess all the pain meds and anesthesia were out of my body by then and then the pain came back. I have not eaten in almost 4 days. I have not drank anything except for a sip of water to take my meds for about that long as well.  I KNOW I'm severely dehydrated. I'm not really making urine anymore. I just don't have any explanation why this keeps recurring or what in the world is going on. I called the surgeon on call this morning and he told me to go to the local ER for fluids and to call the office in the morning. He was then going to email my surgeon to let him know what was going on. Of course, right after I got off the phone, I was SO extremely tired, I fell asleep. Long story short.......I have not gone to the ER here for fluids. I hate our ER and would seriously just like to wait to call my surgeon's office in the morning. My surgeon has been SO WONDERFUL to me through out this whole ordeal and I feel bad that I keep having these issues. I'm reaching out, grasping at straws for any kind of explanation I can get. I'm at a loss and if this is how my RNY is going to be.........I don't want it anymore. That is TOUGH for me to say because I tried for 5 1/2 YEARS to get this surgery done. I just want to live like a normal human being and I'm SO frustrated.......I just want to cry!

Sorry you are having problems, but I don't think i's wise to look for answers ont he internet when you have a doc answering your calls and giving you advice.....Some people do have rocky patches....but if you have no strictue, and they say the ulcers are healed....and you still have problems, you need to see the doc...and he is willing to see you....the fastest way I know to be ignored by a doc is to not follow his advice. bests russ

WOW...........well, honestly I'm waiting for the office to open so I can call the doc. I only posted this to see if someone had a similar experience before.

Allie, listen to yourself, you say you are dehydrated, you have nat eaten in 4 days, and a doc told you last night to come to the ER..you do not have the strenght to go to the ER, but you have strength to get on line.... Do you want to get help? You doc is willing to help you....even if he is the doc on call....don;t you think he is more qualified than strangers on the internet???? You have come a long way....but you want to chuck it all because you don;t want to go to the ER.... Listen to yourself Russ

Never said I didn't have the strength to go. I was exhausted. I wanted to go to sleep. That was at 9 something yesterday morning. I slept all day practically. Yeah I want help. That's why I'm calling MY surgeon at 8:30.

That kind of exhaustion (from dehydration) is due to hypovolemia and likely hypotension... meaning your vital organs (including brain) are not getting enough oxygen and want to shut down.... likely leading to brain damage that can kill.... so it IS a big deal to wait, even a few hours, let alone a whole day.

Oh Allie, I am so sorry to hear you are having these problems.  (((((HUGS))))  Unfortunately, I am pre-op so I have no answers but I just want to lend my support.  I'm glad that you are going to call your doc this morning, dehydration can be very serious.  It sounds to me like you have a very caring doc and I'm sure he will get to the bottom of this.  Please keep us posted.

Hi Allie, sorry you are feeling so poor. First off good idea to get in touch with the surgeon, I am with the ones who say you should have gone to the ER. Coulda woulda shoulda you know. BUT I had similar pain several months out of surgery. My surgeon put me on protonix and said mine was from regurge. Lo and behold when I miss a does guess what? The pain comes back. Keep on the meds and the surgeon will find what is going on. Hope you get answers very soon. Robin
