I feel like a failure

I don't even feel like I've got the band.  I'm super hungry all the time and I know that I find myself eating more than I should before I even feel full.  I thought the band was supposed to help me to not be able to do that but I don't feel like it's helping me much at all right now.
I know I need to have willpower and rely on myself but it's hard.  I had a problem with this in the first place, hence the reason I had surgery .  I do eat better things and have exercised more than I used to because I don't want this surgery to be a waste but I wish I felt different somehow and I don't.  I haven't lost as much as others I've seen that are this many weeks out (3) and that just makes me feel like even more of a failure.
I am not going to get my band filled until the 3rd of February.  Will things be different once I get fill?  Am I just whining?  I am grateful I was able to have this surgery so I guess I'll shut up now.

OMG....don't sweat it chica!!!!!

I know my profile says VSG but I did have a band at one time so I know what I'm talking about LOL

I was the SAME way....  some people have immediate restriction from the band just by itself, but most don't until they get a fill,  or actually,  SEVERAL fills.

I know it's hard to be patient,  you just went through surgery,  which can be quite painful,  and would like some help!

Hang in there...with good restriction,  it gets much much easier

Sunshine, come on.  Chin up girl.

First, everyone is different.  Second, you say you have not lost as much...  What have you lost?  Evidently you have, so it is a start.  I know the lapband is a slower weight loss as opposed to RNY.  I had RNY, so I can't answer your questions, but make sure to ask your doc.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

You aren't whining and you aren't a failure.   I imagine a fill will provide you some needed restriction, but it won't work on your head.

Unfortunately surgery, any WLS, is not a fix for our heads.  What you are feeling and thinking can be modified, too, but you'll need to find the right tool for that job.  You've got the band for your belly, now find a counselor or psychologist for your head.  You've done the easy part.

Keep up the positive attitude and follow your docs orders until you can find someone to coach you through the lifestyle changes.

Good luck.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009

When I had a band I didn't feel any restriction until after I had several fills.  I thought I was gonna starve to death.  It's not just you, it's the nature of the band until you get the right fill amt for you. (and don't sweat the fills, virtually painless).

I'm going through the exact same thing!  It is so difficult to know how much to eat and when I should feel full.  What makes it worse for me is that I haven't lost ANY weight since my surgery at all!  My doc would not allow me to go back to Curves to exercise until he sees me on the 28th.  So, I imagine that is part of the problem.

Don't feel like a failure.  You are doing what you can at the moment and as soon as that fill comes along things will go a little quicker.

Toni...is that your name =)?  Just wanted to say to you...hang in there.  We started our journey's at about the same time so I imagine you might be feeling about the same as me.  Reading Kris' post and what everyone else said really made me feel better and I hope it does you too.  Thanks for the words of encouragement =).

Hi,

You aren't that far out and you probably don't even have any saline in your band. Some surgeons will put something in your band, some won't. Mine didn't.  I got my first fill 6 weeks after my surgery.  You will see a difference, you will feel a difference.  Just because the stomach gets "fixed" the brain has to catch up and get "fixed".  It's a hand and hand deal.  You will do just  fine.

DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!  That is the worst thing you can do is play mind games with yourself.   Just follow the guidelines set forth and stay positive, you will do just fine!!!

Blessings,

Nina

Thank you for sharing it with me.  Your profile brought tears to my eyes because that is exactly what I am going through right now and exactly what I needed to hear.
