Prayers needed for my Mom

My 87 year old mother lives by herself in Arkansas where the horrible ice storm****  We've been unable to reach her for 4 days.  We finally were able to get through to the State Police tonight who radioed to the local police and they did a welfare check on her.  She is OK but has no electricity or water.  They LEFT HER THERE!!  What idiots!!  Apparently there is no place that has electricity and water.  My sister is driving up tomorrow to rescue her but it's a 10 hour drive. She doesn't even know she's coming cuz we couldn't talk to the local police as they have no phones either.  We even tried calling the Walmart, City Hall, Fire stations, etc, NO ONE has any services.  The State Police did say the roads are driveable but it might take 3 weeks before all services are restored.  Anyway, it is above freezing tonight but I don't know how she's making it with no heat.  Her whole house is electric.  Knowing Mom she has plenty of soft drinks and WINE to drink since they have no water either.  She also always has tons of food so she should be OK there.

Anyway, prayers that she has one more safe night and that my sister can get her tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers for you Mom and for your sister's travels!

Please let us know when Mom is picked up and all is well!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

What part of Arkansas does she live in?

We own property in Sharp Co - Evening Shade - and our neighbors are good friends.  I better have DH call and check on them tomorrow.  I hope our yurt is still standing and didn't collapse under the weight of the ice or we will have a bigger project in April than I am planning on.

I am assuming your Mom had propane heat or they wouldn't have left her - but STILL !!!!!

Prayers going out that she is ok and your sister makes it there safety to rescue her.

Mom lives in Cherokee Village which is very close to Evening Shade.  She does NOT have propane.  She has electric heat and 2 fireplaces but they both have electric starters and I don't know if she knows how to start them without using the starter.  One is a pellet stove and I know that has an electic thermostat.  The other one is a gas log fireplace so hopefully she got that one lit.

Oh dear - we will call our neighbors today and I hope your Mom is ok.  Yes, I know Cherokee Village well and they have been hit HARD this past year!  Terrible tornado that wiped out our favorite breakfast joint (the Timberline) right across from the Cherokee Village entrance, then flooding - now ice.

Now I understand why my neighbor went to great lengths when he built his house to separate the essential electrical circuits from non-essential ones.  He flips a switch and runs the essential ones off a propane generator and has a 1000 gal tank.  He mentioned ice storms when he was showing us the house and how they frequently lose power from them.  He also had a wood-burning stove as a backup also.  I will do the same when we build ours.

Oh my goodness, Steph!!!  I'm glad she's ok but I cannot believe they left an elderly woman there with no electricity or water. Stupid!!  Praying that she is safe this a.m. and that your sister can get there to rescue her.

Hugs,

Hopefully she's keeping bundled up and stocked up on wine-that will keep her a little distracted at least. Poor mom though!! I am praying for your sister's travels and that your mom is okay and that her house's electricity is restored SOON!
