I went to the nut on the 16th. She said that I should get on this instead of the sleeve. i was just wandering if anyone knows anything about this. Thanks for all the info.

Byetta is a diabetic medication that is supposed to help curb the appetite. My husband's uncle is on it and it causes him much intestinal discomfort...  But he's actually diabetic and is on that and 1 or 2 other medications for his diabetes.  I was actually talking about it with him last night. He hasn't lost any weight on it, but that's probably because he hasn't changed his eating...  just about all the males in my husbands family are diabetic and addicted to sugar...

Thanks for the info. My nut claims that she has a friend that has lost 95 lbs while taking this and that she is almost off of all her other meds. I really haven't heard to much about it.

I was on Byetta for diabetes. Since my surgery I am off all diabetes medication and my sugar glucose levels are normal. In my opinion, Byetta is not in any way a substitute for the sleeve. It does surpress your appetite slightly but it doesn't prevent emotional eating or any of the other issues that have caused us to get where we are. The person who lost 95 pounds on Byetta is the exception and must have been being very careful about what she ate and was exercising. The literature for Byetta says that studies have shown that people on Byetta lose 5 or 10 pounds not significant amounts. Hope this helps. Linda

I took Byetta for about a week. It made me so sick....I couldnt eat anything at all. Just the thought of food made me want to puke. I quit taking it.  Some people really do well with it. I certainly didnt.  It defintely curbs the appetite, but in the beginning it causes alot of nausea...the nausea is supposed to taper off after a few days, but for me, it only got worse. I cant say it even helped my blood sugar...it stayed at around the same level.

You may want to ask your nut about Meridia as an alternate to Byetta, especially if you don't have diabetes. At one of my Weight Connections meetings one of the other patients said he was on Meridia and lost about 14 pounds in 21 days, I believe. Anyways, check it out with your nut.  It does require a prescription, and blood pressure monitoring, but may be the answer you are seeking. Fred

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

Thanks for the info. I know I want the sleeve. She was saying that this would work and not to do the surgery. I know I have heard people loose up to about 20 lbs. I thought that you all could give me some feed back. Skye

I think you should give it a try. If your doctor thinks that their is a chance that you can get your weight off without surgery, why not? The worst that can happen is that you don't lose the weight in which case you can go for surgery. I know your fustrated and fed up with pills and programs, but if your doctor thinks you have a fighting chance, than you should fight for it. Good luck in whatever you do.

i like byetta..

i was taking for awhile with topamax and it really help me drop weight.. however i didnt stick to it. and topamax made me very dumb when i was taking it.
you feel a little nauseous at first when taking byetta but nothing too bad. if you took it and did a weigh****chers type thing jus****ching what you eat and making good choices you will lose weight. however you can still eat wrong things.. in large amounts..

phew.. thats why i cant wait for my sleeve. im good on the choice making.. but i do slip and then its a spiral. but i think byetta would give you a good chance to see how things might be if you wanted to do the stages of the sleeve without the hunger of your stomach to size now. just to try things cause it does make you feel nauseous.

My doctor put me on Byetta about 2 weeks ago to control my high blood sugar.   It does suppress appetite, but that’s because you are nauseous for a few hours after taking it.  It is also very expensive.  The needles that go with it are about $30 for a box of 100 and the pin itself is around $245.  It will cost me $190 a month with my insurance.  It is not recommend for weight loss (the package says so).  People who take it lost an average of 11 pounds over 2 years.  The idea of taking a shot twice a day for the rest of my life is what really got me thinking about WLS.  I would rather cure my high blood sugar then treat it.
