I want surgery NOW!!!
Uh- when I looked at my waist and butt in the mirror, and realized that wasn't the way my mind pictured me!
And then when I saw some pictures of me from a Xmas party, I realized I looked like Jabba the Hut!
And the heavy breathing going up a hill with my dogs, and the worsening co-morbidities.
Don't even get me started.
Best of luck on your WLS voyage,
Fred
It wasnt so long ago that i felt that exact same way..
I made up my mind in Nov that I wanted WLS...well id decided long ago...but decided to pursue it ...again..in Nov...by Dec, i had decided on VSG and got my surgery date....but I had to wait 3 months for that date to arrive...that was the longest 3 mo of my life i think...
its hard to wait.....but during this time, u need to be learning and making plans....find out as much about the surgery and diet that u will need to follow...learn about the various protein supplements that aid us in our WL journey...talk to as many of us that u can...
this is what I did in those 3 months...and its really helped me.. If i had been able to get the surgery right away... I would have been totally lost pos-op....not knowing what to do or what to eat...etc...
so enjoy this time..read and learn....and ur time will come...
good luck
I hear about about being ready to go. BTW as you may or may not have figured out I am from Phx. I am headed to Juarez on 5/24 for VSG procedure. My MD is Arturo Rodriguez who usually operates (no pun intended) out of Monterrey MX but is starting to do procedures in Juarez for us southwest folks.
I have not see anything about him on this website but have been very impressed with him pre-op. He has called me twice when I had questions so now when I email him I tell him he can email the answer.
My getting ready process involved researching the surgeon and location I thought would work best for me, gettting an equity line of credit since I did not have 10K waiting for a good purpose. I talked to many folks that had various WLS and talked about their experiences post-op and the major changes they had to make and how they handled it. Since surgery in MX does not have "built in" after care like they do here I went about setting my own up, finding a dietician to help post-op, a counselor dealing with compulsive overeating and baritatic patients, trying to find a local support group etc.
Don't know if this helps at all but that is my story
A year before I had surgery, I knew I would never have it. Then I met one person with an RNY. She got me thinking about it, though I was headed toward lapband.
Then I found out my neighbor had RNY. I was very close to deciding.
Mentioned it to a friend (who was also MO). That was my breakthrough--made it much more real.
Found a place to start the process. They recommended OH. I started researching and switched to VSG. Researched and surgeon-shopped a lo****ched my friend get a botched band-job, called Mexico from her hospital room and had surgery 11 days later.
See my profile for the details, but that's it in a nutshell. So, I don't think it has to be a long-drawn out process--if you know the doc you want and don't have to wait 6 months for insurance approval, go for it!!!

"Many a false step was made by standing still."
I haven't been posting...I've been lurking. I can say now that I have better insurance I think about it every day, every time I gasp as I walk, every time I look in the mirror, every time some kid I work with makes a fat joke, everytime I don't fit into a pair of pants, everytime I want to comfortably sit in a booth, everytime I think about sex...I can't wait either. Hang in there. How long have we been obese and ready for a change? Now compare that to six months or so waiting for WLS. In comparision not that long. What gets us is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and wanting deperately to get there.

You just have to make the decision after you have done your research, and go for it. If you have your finances in order, may I suggest Dr Alvarez.. You will get excellent care, from a top notch doctor, who has preformed many VSG's. He is one or the best at what he does, he is compassionate, and has a fantastic bedside manner. His cost is reasonable @ $10,000. ---- Go for it., I'm sure you will have no regrets! His coordinator, Susan, is most helpful and very knowledgeable.
Best of luck!
