Post op foods

This evening was the first time I've got really down about this. I can't even tolerate clear broths, I just get a horrible feeling and start burping in a very unlady like fashion.

I'm two weeks out on Tuesday and I've been drinking water, skimmed milk, fruit juice and a protein drink. I can only get down about 4-5oz at a time over the space of about a half hour to an hour. I was looking forward to going on to pureed foods but I dont know if it is going to be ok if I can't even manage more than a few sips of broth!!

Tell me it's going to be ok, I feel like I'm never gonna be able to eat again.

don't worry - you DEFINATELY will be able to eat a lot more.  i went through the same thing.  now i am about 2 months out and I can eat more.  I know others who are further along who eat more than I do.  good luck

I know how you are feeling.  It will get better.  I started with mashed potatoes but really stayed with liquids for the most part because they did go down easier and felt better in my tummy.  That amount (4-5 oz) is not bad....that was about what I was able to do too....you just have to make sure you continue to do it however small the amount is.

Remember - you had major surgery a couple weeks ago. Your stomach is going to continue to heal and, as it does, stuff will go down easier... You're going to be a-ok! *But* - you might very well have to get used to unlady-like for awhile. I'm almost 6 months out, and my digestive system still audibly lets itself be known all the time. My tummy groans, I burp - and yes, there are lots of etc.'s.

I'm 1 week out and it sounds like the Georgia/Florida game in there, WITH all the tail gate parties!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
I to hope this too shall pass??? LMAO

I can do about 4 ozs over 30 mins...but I don't, I do about 2 in 15 and be done with it =)

Good luck and GOD bless (((HUGZ)))

Aloha Lou- I had to stay on clears for WEEKS, then on fulls for WEEKS more- didn't even start mushies til 6 weeks out and had trouble with them as well. The good news is- you sound normal! The other good news is- you will feel great restriction for ( hopefully) a long time and it will be very easy to walk away from bad choices. It will get easier- don't pu**** and use your fluid intake wisely- get protein in as well as fluids ( shakes, bullets, protein fortified milk, etc)- XOXOLori

This stage of the game is really hard. Your still healing and have swelling that hasnt gone down. Plus u are trying to eat and drink and get some nutrition in......try not to worry.... Yes, it does get better. This sounds bad I know, but enjoy this while u can. I really wish I could go back to that stage and not be able to eat much at all....I can eat so much now....talk about depressing..
Just hang in there =)

I burped for what seemed to be an eternity, still do, but not nearly as much.  Burping is now one of my full signs.

You might need an acid blocker to help you as it could be acid that is adding to the problem.  I take nexium.
