OT - List of commonly misused or misssssspelled words
I hope no one takes offense at this. Just having some fun.....
I can't remember who, but someone started me going on this with his lose - loose definition in his sig. So here's my list.
In addition to lose - loose, I would add Lost. This is commonly misused with the other two.
My personal fav - irregardless. There is no such word (at least in proper english). "IR" means "not" So irregardless means "not regardless"? It's best to just say regardless. I know, ain't is technically a word too, but do go around saying "I ain't got no"?
Advice, Advise "I need some advise" I see this all the time. You need some advice, not advise.
Ask - Axe
Preventive, Preventative. There is no such word as preventative. It's preventive.
Comfortable. Why do we all pronounce this word as comf-ter-ble when it's pronounced com-fort-a-ble? No wonder our kids can't spell.
Than, then.
There, their, they're. There (a place) their (it belongs to them) they're (they are)
To - too If you can replace the word to with also, then it's spelled too (plus some other applications).
Your - You're Your is possesive, you're is short for you are. If you can replace your with you are, then it's spelled you're
Yea - Yeah
I know there's more, this is my list.
There - they're
complain - complaint. "I have a complain" No, you have a complaint.

lose/loose is my pet peeve.. lol
but honestly i think when people are just typing away on a message board it is not so important to have perfect grammar and spelling.. now if it was an essay to be graded i would consider the problem..
I am guilty of misspelling and typos in a message board and i will see them before i post it but i honestly dont care lol

Ok this is all about ME (which most things in my life are)!!
For whatever reason and I never noticed it until I was on a voice chat line and I said the word ask. This european lady and yes she was white says "why do all (and I take offense to the word ALL) you black people say axe instead of ask." I was offended by the generalization BUT I was FLOORED by the fact that she was right...I have a VERY hard time pronouncing the word ask. I will actually speak around that word. I have used the word quandary is of I have a question to ask you...!!
Desert and Dessert
Sweet and Sweat = I finally think that sweet is sugary and sweat is after a work out...sad thing is I don't feel like looking up desert and dessert to type that sweet is a ???

And when did the pronunciation of "houses" become howsses rather than howzes??? And does no one say of-fen any more (often)? I was taught that of-ten was WRONG!
