Pre surgery liquids
Please don't throw in the towel, It's hard, but it's worth it. The first 3 or 4 days is the most difficult. Folow the instructions your surgeon and dietician gave you so that you'll be healthy for surgery.
If you don't like the ones you're drinking,...try a different one, and a different one again until you find on you can live with.

DO NOT give up! I am on the protein fast for 2 months now b/c my insurance will not approve me for 6 months! I have lost 18 pounds. I drink 3 muscle milk LIGHT protein drinks per day and have a high protein dinner with vegetables and 2 grain servings. Around 7pm I have a yogurt with fruit in it. I started at over 400 pounds and laughed at the thought of being able to do this. I HATED all of the other drinks that I tried. The muscle milk light is the only one I can tolerate. PLEASE stick with it. It works. It gets your metabolism going, but you have to find the right drink for YOU! You can do this! Once you see those first few pounds come off, it is SO much easier to stick to!
You can do this. This is how the liver shrinks so surgery is a lot safer. You do not want a huge liver that could be damaged and cause a lot of problems. I had 3 weeks of all protein shakes and the fourth day I had a major meltdown. I questioned why I was doing this and if it was really worth it. On day five I picked myself up, packed my shakes for work and I did not turn back. You can do this. It is so important. The trick is to stay really busy and drinks lots of crystal light and sugar free popcycles.

I am 5 weeks out from my surgery. I had 3 weeks of full liquids before, clear liquids for the first week after, and another 2 weeks of full liquids after that. It was not easy, but it was worth it! The more weight you lose before, the more room the surgeon has to manuver inside, and the faster your recovery. The jump start losing weight didn't hurt either. I lost 25 lbs before, and just over 35 more since my surgery.
Set your mind on your goals; how good it will feel to be lighter, healthier and able to move again. It's a short term situation with long range advantages.
I wish you the best of luck.

If you want to give up after one day, this is going to be a hard journey for you. There are many things you have to overcome to get where you want to be with this surgery. Take a look inside and find your inner strength. Think about how much you want this. Things worth having in life don't come easy - you are worth it.
And one more comment - I am presuming if you were able to diet successfully on your own, you wouldn't be going through this process...

I had three weeks of liquids prior to my surgery. Like everyone says, the first 2-3 days are the hardest. I won't say that it's a piece of cake after that, but it's easier.
My surgeon's coordinator told me that every once in a while, Dr. Alvarez has to abort a VSG because the liver is too big and he can't see what he needs to see. That was my incentive for the liquid diet. I couldn't imagine going to Mexico, getting put under anesthesia and then waking up and them telling me that they couldn't do the surgery. So I did pretty darn good at it!! Ok, I did cheat twice, but I still did great! You can do it, too!!!
