on the 800 cal, 40 carb, 60 protein thing.  my NUT basically told me 1200 cals, heavy on protein, sparing on the carbs, i should lose weight, about 2 lbs a week, which i have been.  and it's the least food i can get by on.  what are you guys eating?  i feel guilty sometimes that i can't measure up to that plan, but feel comfortable with what my NUT is saying.  jus curious!  thanks!

I see that you are about three months out, so I will tell you what I ate around that time.

B: one egg
S: string cheese
L: shrimp with ****tail sauce, or turkey breast, or piece of chicken, or scallops, or three oz. lean beef, you get the idea.  and a few bites of veggies
S: veggie soup from my profile
D: home made turkey chili

That is under 600 cals

I ate 600 cals or less for about the first 4.5 months and felt great. At my six month check up I was told to up it to 1000.  At first it seemed ridiculous and impossible, but now I am averaging 900-1000 everyday.  I still wonder how I survived on so little and continue to do so compared to what I used to eat.  Now I wonder why on earth I thought I ever needed all that food pre-op!  Don't compare your self to others, everyone's diet and doctor's are different. As long as what you are doing is working, stick with it.

My daily caloric intake was 600-800 calories until I lost 100% of my excess weight.

My program called for me in increase my calories to 1,200 per day when maintaining. This is what I've done though I continue to limit carbs to less than 40 grams per day.

600-800 calories and less than 40 grams of carbs have beem more than adequate for me. I'm never hungry and the weight loss has been easy.

At three months this was my diet,

B - 8 oz. FF Latte
L - 4 oz. Tuna Salad
S - 2 oz. Cheese
D - 4 oz. Steak, 2 oz. Lentil Soup
S - 8 oz. protein shake

Approximately 750 calories.

Good luck,
George

I can't speak for others, and it's not my place to tell others what to do... but I'm getting by on about 600-700 cals/day without any issues.  Protein shake for breakfast, 2 ozs. of dense protein for lunch, 2 ozs of dense protein for dinner.  Sometimes I'll have a piece of cheese or a few almonds as a snack, but I prefer to stick to just 3 meals/day.  I eat full-fat, but not excess fat.  Very low carb, usually under 15/20 grms a day.  I stay well hydrated, 1-2 gallons of water/day & 2 or 3 cups of coffee/day.  Once a month or so I will totally fail and have a carb binge, but the next day I'm back on program.

I'm moderately active... move around a good bit at work, push mow the lawn, raise animals, do outdoor activities.  Need to get to the gym a little more often.  I have more energy now than I've ever had.

My body is my guide.  As long as I'm feeling great & losing weight, I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing.

Current weight: 170 lbs.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.

Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet.  Start date 9/13/10.

I'm 6 months out and routinely eat ~600-800 calories and ~20g carbs. I also drink about 100-120oz of water as well. I don't think my weight loss has been particularly fast, but I am losing with a few stalls here and there, so it is working.

For me, my day typically looks like this:

B: protein shake made with unsweetened almond milk
L: 2 oz deli meat, 1oz low fat cheese
S: (if I need it) 1oz jerky
D: 3oz lean protein (chicken, pork, shrimp, salmon)

I don't think I ever ate that little except the first week after surgery, and always seemed to eat more than others on this site.  I think by the time I was a year out, I was eating a thousand or more cals a day.  Don't know if that has anything with me not losing any hair or not having much trouble maintaining at 2 yrs out.    I eat way more than that now - probably 1600 or more.  Don't really keep track, but I eat a lot of nuts for snacks.

Glad to know you made it to goal eating like that.  My Dr. recommends around 1100/day and I have no problem doing that.  I know other plans are different but I chose my surgeon because I trusted him.  Therefore, I follow his guidelines best I can.

At 3 months post op, I had many days when I couldn't make the 600 calories for the day but I did pretty good on getting about 60 grams of protein and keeping my carbs under 50.  Drinking is always my problem and it helps to do shakes when you are having fluid issues.  I did a lot of tuna & chicken salad, along with a lot of shell fish.  I lived on shrimp and bay scallops...and bacon!  Eggs were not my friend until about the last 6 weeks.

Just make good food & drink choices, write it all down, but don't worry so much about making the high calorie goals.  If your body can do it, fine, if not, then it is what it is... Worrying doesn't help anything.  Just do what you can...
