Tell me someone else cheated more than once on this two weeks of hell! I'm 6 days away from surgery and having a terrible time not eating stuff! It sounds to me like my surgeon will operate no matter what...but I didn't know if they could cancel it if you didn't lose enough weight. I know several people that didn't even have to do a pre-op diet so wonder if it is so important???

I'm so sorry. I didn't have to do a pre liquid diet. I lost 38 on my own. I only did the liquid the day before. Be careful and follow your procedures with Dr. Kim. :D

In ontario the pre op diet is mandatory but not for weight loss ist to shrink the liver and make it less slippery as they have to move it out of the way to get to the stomach and the smaller it is the less chance of them knicking it when the operate and NO your not the only one that cheated 6 days in i ate half a chiken breast as i was missing the sensation of food if you have to cheat try to make it high protien low gfat low carb low sugar I know whats the point of the cheat lol

I had a glazed donut 3 days pre op but worried myself because of it. I survived surgery just great. How long the liquid diet is has to do with your weight as well as shrinking the fat on liver so its not slippery during surgery. Glazed donut was BAD choice of relapses.

I typically managed to keep stuff to one solid meal a day (lunch) and two liquid meals for breakfast and dinner.  I did buckle down the last couple of days and went pure liquid...I don't encourage others to follow but I was honest with my nurse and doc, they were cool.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I can do one meal a day with shakes the rest of the time and can even go a couple of days on shakes only but then......

Again, I would talk to your doc and nurse about it, I was up front with them after three days of religious liquid dieting, and they basically told me to do the best I could.  I can't remember *****sponded below (cool guy, very experienced) and he's correct, we're all different as are our surgeons, talk to them and do your best to follow the instructions.

I am lucky to have a good line of communication with mine, I went into this wanting the bypass, and he said "Can you tell me you'll stop smoking right now?", my response was "Hell no, not making one of the scariest adult decisions I've ever made", so he said "The bypass has a greater risk of ulcers for smokers, I want to sleeve you", my response was "You're the Doc".

Keep that communication open and honest, you don't want any surprises, I had the same struggles, but for me and my size and vital signs and surgeon's skills they were comfortable with that decision for me.  Good luck and keep pushing, it does get easier.

Hey man....

I'm just gonna be straight up and put this out there....

Follow your doctors instructions.....

You wanna risk going in and the doc sayin he ain't gonna do it cause you didn't follow instructions?

He wants your liver shrunk down.....I think it's something like your liver shrinks to almost half by losing 10lbs.

You go in with a honkin fatty liver.... it makes it harder for him cause he has to flop that thing outta the way to get to your stomach and do his work. Make it easy for him!

Your falling in a bad trap right off the get go here...... You can't believe everything you read here on this forum or any other public forum. Get your medical advice from your doctor!!!

I'd call your doctor and tell'em.....your havin a hard time....is there any way to modify this pre-op diet.

I just want you to do well with this thing......It has been great for me and I wish the same for you.....

Hang in there...
