He is complaining of a sore throat - normal I know but they told him NO water. I've been giving him ice chips to suck on but its not helping much. Just wondering of anyone was given anything like a sore throat remedy (cepacol?) or allowed to drink water?

Once his leak test is completed he should be allowed to have liquids.  The sore throat is from the intubation, and should go away fairly quickly.

Good luck, the worst is over,

Fred

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

They gave me the lemon swabs they had kept in the fridge...it really helped moistened my mouth and helped my throat...may want to ask if they have any

as pinkypromise stated, ask for the mouth moist swabs. were a lifesaver the night before my leak test

don't give him ice chips yet though!

My throat was raw after surgery.  They gave me some version of Chloreseptic that I could spray in.  Really helped numb it down.

Thankfully  mine wasnt' too bad,  the only thing i could have until the next day was those swabs,  i was swallowing,  don't tell,  we're not supposed to evidently.   As you know,  he'll be much better quickly,  its usually harder to see someone we love suffer than to go through it ourselves.  Take care of both of you :o) jeani

LOL....yeah I know about swallowing...I was sneaking water after my surgery - small sips but obviously I was fine. Mark has been sucking them down and just complained that now he feels full. Yep...damned if you do - damned if you don't.

Jeani - I gotta tell you - I just read your other post and just now realized its YOU!!! Meaning that you changed your profile picture - I didn't recognize you from way back when cuz  you lost so much weight and changed your haircolor - you look 20 years younger!!! You look awesome!!!

Hmph... my surgeon must be really confident in his abilities because I was given ice chips as soon as I woke up and never had a leak test at all.

I don't really think its abilities  i think all surgeons just do things their way,  i didn't get anything to drin****il the next day but my surgeon doesn't do leak tests either.   He's done thousands of surgeries and never had a complication,  he did use the drain for the two days in the hospital though and you can tell by the fluids it collects if there is a problem  :o) jeani

Good point, my surgeon did the same...man did it feel weird having the drain pulled out! I thought it would hurt, so glad I was wrong, but that was one of the strangest sensations!
