I called my insurance company the next day after the doctor sent it in and I had my approval the following day.  Easy peasey.  Hope your goes as smooth.

I became a bit of a pest when it was time to submit to insurance.  I even got the office to give me a tentative date.  Keep calling!  Find out who is responsible for submitting the paperwork and ask them how long to submit? Fax the paper work?  Do whatever you can to facilitate the process!  My insurance company Aetna approved in 2 days,  I had a lot of indications bmi, OSA, DM HTN.  Good luck.
Remember if you are self pay and you have a complication that is not covered either.

Believe me, I wanted it done the day before yesterday when I was jumping hoops. BUT, I will say that during that time, it really gave me a chance to process all the changes, the risks, the possible complications. I already had a band, and puked pretty regularly with food, hell some days water made me puke, so I had the eating curve beat, and was not worried about being compliant, or cheating on the post-op diet.

The one thing I suggest is to start working on behavior modifications NOW. Use this time to really get mentally and emotionally prepared. I know you think you're prepared, but you're not. Even as a revision patient, and months, and months of ready, having a revision patient as a mentor, I still was not mentally prepared for the complications and recovery I endured.

That 240 bucks a month is almost my Dodge Nitro monthly payment on a 42 month finance note from our credit union. So, me, being me, and being the type of person that needs prep time, needs time to process everything, I needed time to process the thought of removing 85% of my stomach, having a 2nd WLS and then possibly having stalls.

Start working on some new solid VSG habits, START NOW.
1) STOP eating and drinking
2) Eat your protein first
3) Quit eating after 20 minutes, and make your meal that entire time.
4) Start pushing clear fluids
5) Start identifying your trigger foods. We all got 'em, and when you find them, eliminate 'em.
6) Start finding some coping mechanism to fill the void that food once had, OR at least start finding something to occupy your mind once you hit the pre-op and post-op liquid diet

MY importantly, research, read about the stalls, the hair loss, the ups and downs. And, when you think you've researched enough, research some more.

Call your doctor's office and confirm that you know they have submitted your paperwork but since the insurance company still does not have it, could they kindly re-submit. Be nice. Mistakes happen. GOOD LUCK!!!

Ask your doctors office if you can just set a date based on your approval. I set a surgery date before I was approved from insurance. lol Hell, I had a date before I had even finished my pro op test and bloodwork was turned in.

so asked and see if they can schedule you in before you approval. obviously it would have to be out long enough for the max time the insurance company has to approve..but it would be earlier than waiting until after your insurance approves you to schedule your appt.

good luck in whatever you do!

oh and P.S. I m a nurse, and I can tell you right now that you can just as easily get an infection in a US hospital as you would in a Mexican hospital.  people get infections all the time and it doesnt matter where you go. it's more of a matter of the people you have. nearly all infections are due to human error...meaning improper hygeine/cleaning. so dont let people scare you into not going to mexico. I personaly wouldnt do it unless I had no choice, but thats my own personly choice.

I just got back from having the surgery in Mexico along with my daughter, I can't tell you how pleased and impressed we were. I am SURE there are some places that would not be good to go to, just like there are some hospitals here in the U.S. that I would not go to.  But do research and don't listen to fear based people, listen to data, stats and personal experiences.  EVERYONE knows someone that knows someone that...blah blah blah.  Speak to the actual individuals and then keep an open mind.

Ideally I do believe that any surgical procedure is BEST done near home with docs that are easily accessible BUT it isn't always feasible and I can honestly say I would travel back without hesitation to do any procedure that my particular doctor does and I would recommend him to any and all friends.

That said, money is money and you do need to weigh all the information and make the best decision for YOU.  Good luck!!
