Pro-Op appointment tomorrow- what questions?

 Can you suggest questions I should ask tomorrow?

I think I have a grip on what to expect but maybe I'm forgetting something?! (I know you can't read my mind!)

I have a pre op appt. tomorrow, too! haha. i started making a list of questions a few days ago.. heres a few i've come up with.

*Will i ever be able to have soda again, after surgery?
*What kind of drugs do i get for pain managment after surgery?
*What can i expect when i wake up?
*How big is the sleeve, exactly?
*How does the body not go into 'starvation mode' after surgery? does it realize thats all you can hold?
*If i dont get ideal results with this surgery, is a revison possible to DS?
*is there nausea after surgery? do you give any preventitive drugs for nausea, so you dont get sick and tear a stitch?


yeah thats pretty much it.. except im gonna ask them if i can keep my nose piercing in during surgery, aswell. haha.

I asked questions that are specific to that doctor. Questions that could only be answered by him and not OH.

Do you take out the gallbladder durring VSG?
Do you give a preventative med to prevent gallbladder problems after surgery?
Do you use a catheter?
Do you send patients home with a drain?
What size bougie do you use?
How long do you keep patients in the hospital?
What kind of preop diet do you require?

Cool! Thanks for sharing! I've asked a million questions before now so I feel pretty good about those. Although I like the 'how does my body not go into starvation mode?' I'm going to ask that one Thanks!

I'd add:
How many VSG's have you done?
How many do you do in a month?
How many days a week/month do you perform surgeries (the fewer means less-skilled and/or a longer wait for you to get on their schedule)?
How do you close up the new stomach? (should be more than just staples)
Do you do a leak test before closing, or do I need to have it after surgery? (very nice to have it during BEFORE they close you up)

Also, I would suggest searching this topic on OH. This gets asked a lot, and you'll probably find a lot of different questions that way.
