hi all,

i'm really excited to be going on vacation starting this friday.  wowoowowowowowowoowow!!!!!

first time i've been on vacation since surgery.  it's been hard to judge holiday (easter) food and restaurant (though i've been moderately sucessful) and we'll have a little kitchen where we're staying so that DEFINITELY helps, but i know it will be 10 days out of my comfort zone.

any strategies folks???  i'm 5 1/2 mos out, so most stuff goes down.  haven't quite mastered the foamies, but less and less.

i'd love ideas!!!!  thanks all!!    ((((((((hugs)))))

Trly boiled or steamed shrimp, crab, lobster.  Grilled chicken, cole slaw.  Remember low carb.  meat, eggs, cheese, and berries are low carb.  event blue cheese dressing, high fat but low carb.  Cheese omletes or eggs and ham are good tool.

"When in Boston," she said, "it makes sense,
To go for the specialty; hence,
I've come to get scrod."
And her friend said, "That's odd.
You've used the past pluperfect tense!"

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

Agree with the above- I just snag whatever is lowest carb on the menu, shrimp ****tail, steak, fish.. I ignore the bread and chips, rice and all that and just go right for the meat! If you have a mini-kitchen, that means you can get that entree and bring home the protein portion that you don't eat- that makes it soo much easier, instant lunch! Steak & eggs for breakfast!

Stock your mini-kitchen with your safe foods, for me that's eggs, lean meats- chicken tenders marinated and cooked, smoked salmon, in the fridge make a quick go-to meal, you can even snag some single serve packets of mayo from a take-out place and make some chicky-salad.. so, if you eat in the condo, you prob have that covered- eating out is just trying to pick something not carb-laden.

I don't know about you, but anytime I go to a friends, or on a get-away I bring my emergency stash in a small personal cooler packed with some freezy packs.. I usually grab yogurt, HB eggs, maybe some cooked meats if I have any, cheese sticks.. stuff like that.. That way if I'm faced with no choice (hasn't happened yet thankfully) I still have my own food I can run out to the car and get. Even my friends rice-shrimp-cheese bake was great, I just picked all the shrimp out and ate them!

Enjoy cape cod! You should have plenty of good stuff to chose from there!

thanks guys!!!  and phred -- a belly laugh for a monday is so much appreciated.  i LOVE limericks and had forgotten that one.  here's another one that is Boston-related:

There once was a lady most droll
Who went to a masquerade ball
To saver herself trouble
She bent over double
And backed in as a Parker House roll

Scrod indeed!  ;-)

 good one!

Let's see--even when not on a diet, when I went to Boston, I ate lobsters, lobsters, clams, lobsters,lobsterslobsterclam...you get it! They are inexpensive and very good. Also lots of good Italian food there...

I just got back from a week in San Diego.  What saved me was snack packs that I made with string cheese, turkey pepperoni and grapes.  There were a few times where food- the right food- was not available and I really needed the energy.  Just plan ahead.

Have a blast!

I love Cape Cod! How fun! If you go to Provincetown do a whale watch - I saw soooo many humpback whales there a few summers ago!

As for food...I hope you like seafood! Lots of great grilled scallops, lobster, crab, etc...stay away from the fish and chips and lobster rolls and go for any of the great cod, scrod, scallops, etc that are available for you. For snacks bring along cheesesticks and yogurt in a little cooler (if you have one/can bring one) or some beef jerky. You'll be fine!

Have a great trip!
