May Sleevers, Checking In!

Crunchy As Can Be

Hey everyone! It's been a whirlwind of a time here for me with starting back at work full steam, but I'm trying to hang in there. I was off from work yesterday after having worked 40+ hours in three days, and I was at the gym sweating my big butt off by 10am!

Today, not so much... but I have a walking date with a girlfriend later on this evening. And I'm going to try to get to the gym at night if our walking isn't much more than strolling, even if it is just for a half hour.

Then right back to work for Wednesday and Thursday... I used to be able to go to the gym after work a couple of years ago and I'd really like to try it again. I find that when I do work out I have a much easier time with controlling what I put into my mouth and don't crave as much crap (maybe because I know how hard I've just worked to burn some of it off!).

How have things for you guys been? What have your struggles been lately and what are you all doing to work through them?

I just started working out Sunday...been going to the Y and walking on the treadmill and stairclimber, yesterday I tried some light weight on the machines...its going to take some time to work up a routine, but I know I will get there....as far as food goes, Sometimes I do not make good choices and I think maybe its because I'm not planning ahead. When I want something to eat I want it right now and then and I should really plan ahead because I am that way. All in all I am doing ok. A struggle that I still have is not eating slowly. I think I am stuck in that mentality if I dont hurry up and eat I wont get any. Something from my childhood I have to break. I mean seriously where am I going to put any more anyhow, lol. Any who, that is where I stand right now ;-)

I just started trying to get back into running today.  I have tried Couch to 5K several times and never have been able to complete it.  Usually week one is a breeze.  Got on that treadmill expecting it to be so much easier than last time(with 30 lbs gone).  I couldn't even make it through the 30 minute intervals!  Ugh....guess I am not back to full speed yet.  I am going to try again tomorrow and see what happens.
I am having trouble getting my protein in.  Protein shakes still make me vomit.  So, I am depending on food to get it in.  Hitting 45-50 gr a day...not great, but all I can do right now.
Ate a few bites of hamburger the other night and felt like I had a rock in my chest for the rest of the evening.  Don't think I will be doing that again anytime soon!

Life is good for me. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow. I'm feeling great and I'm able to get in all my liquids and all of my proteins. I do a combo of protein drinks and food to get it all in. It just depends on the day. Cottage cheese is my lifesaver. I haven't been given the ok to do all foods yet. My 6 week check up is this Friday and I think I'll be given full release. But I'm fine with eating what I am. I don't have any hunger and I really don't enjoy eating anymore. I have to force myself to eat.
As far as exercise - I golf 18 holes 4-5 times a week. That's how I get my exercise in.

The only struggle I have - is fast eating. I've always been a fast eater and that has been tough for me to stop. But I'm working on it. I now just set my fork or spoon down between bites and try to visit with who ever is around me. Works most of the time - I just have to be really concious about it.

Hi,

Just wanted to ask if you don't mind. I would like to know how long were you out of work . I sit down at a desk all day and thinking , I would only need a week out of work. I have decided on the sleeve, and my first consulation with the doctor is on July 8th, with Dr. Vohra at South Nassau Hospital. Thank you

I'm six weeks out today and, so far, so good. I've been on regular diet since last Thursday and I'm struggling to get calories in. I'm hitting between 400 and 500 a day and some days I get over 60 grams of protein (my goal) and some days less. I try to get a protein drink of some sort in most days but it depends on what I've got going on.
Like many have said, I too struggle with remembering to eat slowly...I pay for it when I don't!
Excercise is going well and so is weight loss...almost 38 lbs this morning. I walk most days while pushing my 3 year old in the jogging stroller. I've also starting jogging in parts of the walk....stamina is increasing. I am a nurse and I work part time nights. It does take me longer to recover from a night shift now, than it did before sugery.....mainly the low caloric intake, I'm sure. But, hopefully I'll be able to increase this soon.
I am a work of art in progress

I am getting my protein in - ( eggs, protein shake, chicken breast, tuna) and it works for me..I am getting about 600-700 calories a day or so- my weight loss has kinda been slow since surgery in may- I lost 30 lbs pre op in 2 months and only 21 since surgery- I had a stall twice now- not sure why but the good thing is I only have 49 lbs to go now....Hopefully I am at goal before the end of the year...and luckily I have not had any problems at all....
