DO CARBONATED DRINKS REALLY CAUSE UR STOMACH TO RUPTURE? THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD BUT IS THAT FACT OR FICTION. ANYONE? WHAT WERE YOU TOLD?

I think its more about discomfort and stretching the sleeve, not rupture, though if you drank enough maybe it's possible.

I miss Fresca! I was at a training meeting yesterday and ALL they had was soda. So I poured a little bit, let it kinda fiz out and got a little flat and sipped it. I was fine. I was the one giving the presentation and needed something to drink!

They still make Fresca?   I thought they stopped producing it twenty years ago.

In my opinion, yes. I believe it's possible if you routinely drink carbonated drinks and/or take NSAIDS, aspirin, etc. I have a friend who was going to have revision surgery for a sleeve, but she couldn't because she had several quarter-size erosions in the lining of her stomach. She had WLS many years ago and continued to drink carbonated drinks (3-4 a day, every day) and take NSAIDS, aspirin, etc. (She also gained all of her weight back and then some). As of today, she's been in the hospital for 10 weeks because they've been trying to get her stomach lining to heal.  They were not able to do the sleeve, but instead did a full gastric bypass. She still has one erosion that refuses to heal and they won't let her go home until it does. She hasn't been able to eat solid food at all, and she gets hydration from an IV. She can't even have water to drink!

Sorry to share such a horrifying example, but you can see why I feel strongly about avoiding carbonation and certain medications after WLS. My surgeon advised me to NEVER have carbonation or NSAIDs, aspirin, etc. again. No problem. I won't touch the stuff!

You should follow your doctor's advice on this subject, however, because he knows your specific situation/conditions and is in a much better position to give you advice.

That is odd about the meds. One of the things that sell many on the sleeve is that people with ailments like arthritis take nsaids and the doctors tell you that it is ok to take with the sleeve.

The meds don't sit in our sleeve like they would a pouch.

I suffer from severe cramps and take pain meds a days monthly. I had mild gastritis and my dad suffered from Ulcers so this concerns me. Staying away from soda is ok with me.
