Did you tell your PCP of your surgery.
He wasn't ordering you to get the lap band. He is not a bariatric surgeon, and probably didn't know much about the sleeve. Let him know so that he can start his education of another option to mention to his patients. I believe in being forthcoming with my PCP. Most of what they do is based on what you tell them.
Heh, read my blog, but the short answer is yes, I did. She wasn't supportive. She still signed the paperwork and ordered the pre-op tests I needed. I got a new PCP a week after surgery because I felt it was SUPER important to have a PCP that was supportive and even knew what the VSG was.

The surgeon required:
From his office - psyche eval, fitness consult, nut consult
From my PCP - lots of blood work (there was a long list LOL), EKG, Chest Xray. It came to around $900 or so.

I should say that my insurance DID cover those tests. They did not cover the VSG though, I was self pay for that :)

My PCP directed me to the program. He didn't PUSH me but he said "If you are interested...." I thought my insurance wouldn't cover it but he told me it would. Very exciting.
I have found since then that even though he is supportive of those decisions that he isn't an expert. I have also found the Internal medicine doctors at the walk-in (we see them ALL the time) also don't know. They look at me with facination and ask questions. I am always happy to ask any questions that anyone may have. It made me realize how many really are clueless. Being clueless doesn't necessarily mean unsupportive :)
