May Sleevers Weekend Check-In!

Crunchy As Can Be
on 7/15/11 11:57 pm - NY
Hey everyone! How have you all been? It's been a minute since my last May Sleevers post and I wanted to check in with everyone to see all of your progress/victories/challenges.

Let me know how things are going for you all!

As for me, I'm doing great. I had my 6 week checkup (a little late at just over 8 weeks post-op) and my surgeon said I'm right on track. In fact, he told me to slow down my weight loss a little which I think is ludicrous. I lost a **** ton the first month (29 combined with pre-op from the week or so before surgery), then 12 pounds the second month. I'm just going to let my body do what it wants to do and settle out when it wants to settle out. I eat plenty, at least 65g protein daily just from food, plus a protein shake immediately after the gym when I do strenuous workouts, do great with my vitamins, have incorporated some veggies and fruits into my diet, I do eat some carbs (feels better with my workouts and jogging) but don't go overboard, am still trying to make it to over 64oz fluids-- I usually just barely hit the 64oz mark, or just under. So that's still a goal for myself.

Where are you all in your journeys?

Hi,  I'm doing pretty good too.  I am down 44 lbs so far and losing inches in some of the right places!!  :-)  Meal planning and meals are better through the week than on the weekend, but I'm getting there with some better planning.  My routine is so varied on the weekends!!  Water is sometimes an issue, but for the most part okay!!  So happy that I took this step in my life!!!  Already feeling so much better and it can only continue to get better from here!!  Have a great day!!

On my way to becoming a WLS "Loser"!!

VSG on 05/31/11 with
Hey! I haven't weighed in a couple days but I'm currently down 31.6 lbs since surgery day, which makes a total of 58.6 lbs with weight lost during pre-op liquid diet.

I feel good! I have my rough days but i'm doing well. Still struggling to get in protein and liquids most days. Mainly because I can't have a water bottle or anything to drink with me during my work hours which means then after work I'm trying to play catch up on my liquids (I try to sneak back and get a few sips in here and there but can't be constantly sipping). Protein I knew would be a struggle because of my being a vegetarian. I'm also only taking in about 2oz of solids at a time still... I'm doing my best but falling short most days.

But I'm working on it. And I couldn't be happier with my decision to have a VSG.

I am down 31.8 lbs.  I stalled for just about a month and just started to slowly lose again!!  I get in water and my protein (all from food---no shakes as they make me nauseaus).  I don't feel restriction when I eat so I have to really, really be consicous on serving size.  I think that I eat more serving size (4-5 oz) than the average sleever which will in turn slow my weight loss down.  Boo!  I am thinking about just premaking my servings up in 3 oz sizes so that I will only be able to eat that amount.

I work out during the week---haven't been to the gym this week but I painted the outside of my house which was enough for me!  Lol.

It's great to hear form people who had surgery at the same time!

 Heather,
I'm three months out and I eat about 6 oz. at each meal--give or take an ounce or two. My doctor told me to eat until I feel full and not to worry about weighing everything. I kind of use the palm of my hand to gauge how much food I should put on my small plate. For the first couple of months, my weight loss seemed to be slower than others, but I've still lost almost 60 pounds in 3 months! I find if I eat mostly protein with a few vegetables, I lose just fine. I think our doctors tells us to eat only 4 oz. at each meal because that's all lap-banders can eat and that's what doctors know the most about. Sleeves are relatively new and there doesn't seem to be as much information on what we can eat and how much we can eat.
Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should be able to lose just fine eating the amount you're eating. I suspect that as you continue to exercise regularly and drink your water, your weight loss will surprise you.  Keep up your good work.

Wow, 60 lbs in 3 months!! That is amazing! Great job!

I don't feel the restriction at 2-3 ounces as most do.  I eat 4-5 ounces and I am not hungry anymore.  I did hit that stall that I had for a month and it was a bit depressing; however, I knew it would not last.

Thank you for letting me know that there is someone else that eats a couple more ounces than others.  I do know that I eat much, much less calories than before!

Hey! I am doing ok. I still LOVE my sleeve! I had been stalled for 2 weeks, since my car accident, but I got on the scale today and it had dropped 2.5 lbs! Yay! Super exciting! I wi**** was coming off faster, but I will certainly take whatever I can get. lol. I have lost 29 lbs since surgery day, and -32 lbs before surgery, for a total of 61 lbs lost! I am in a size 22, pre surgery I was a 24 or 26 depending on the jeans. And I am in a 2x top, down from a 3 or 4x. I see neck muscles and veins popping out and I can see a difference in my sides. Best decision I ever made!!

Since May 28th, I have lost 45 pounds. I am going to be in the 160's sometime this week. I now wear a size 8/10, and M/L tops.

I am in shock every single day. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself in my life.

I had my VGS on May 10,2011 and i'm down 45 lbs.  I am not paying much attention to my eating as I lost my 21 yo daughter 4 weeks ago in a tragic skydiving accident.  I need to get going on this. I am having a real hard time..
