Did you know the carbs we eat are counted like this:

Carbs Minus Fiber = Carbs We are Eating.

I know a lot of you know this, but there are some who do not know this.

It's called Net Carbs, and not all programs/nuts/surgeons recommend this method for carb counting/eating. The main reason is because eating foods outside of protein can be counter-productive for some patients. I never used the net carb formulation, and counted every carb that crossed my lips.

#1 I didn't have room for other foods outside of protein so I didn't have to really worry about ever going over 30gr of carbs per day.

#2 Being able to subtract the fiber from a carby food was kind of like justification of cheating like in my previous dieting years when I had a cheat day, or a couple of cheat meals per week. I had to nix all of those behaviors to ensure success.

There's varying, and differing opinions on this subject, but it's not always recommended or used by many successful sleeve patients. Just like, others have great success and can manage more carb consumption than others.

 Tiffykins,

Thanks as always for an insightful post! And I'm excited to learn Sprout is now Tatum!!! I'm well past having any new little ones of my own, so it's extra fun for me to watch your progress!

I agree: protein first does mean you automatically get less than 30 carbs per day.

Also HOW carbs affect you is different from person to person.  While the whole carbs-fiber is cool.  Sometimes our bodies really don't care about the fiber content.  A donut causes me as much cravings as whole grain cereal or oatmeal.

Ms. Shell, that's what I'm afraid of. I think my body will react the same way whether it's a donut or oatmeal. I'm scared of even going there. Slippery slope...
