Is VSG for me???

Good Morning everyone,I'm starting my WLS process all over again. Since i started researching WLS I've always wanted vsg but my INS would only cover RNY/LAPBAND.That was two year ago,Now i know that my ins covers vsg,I wonder if its really for me.When i met with my surgeon tow years ago after talking he suggested that either VSG/DS would work best for me because of my BMI.The reason that I'm question if VSG is for me is because I'm 5'8 and i weigh 468 pounds,I've been looking all over these message board and trying to find people who weigh as much as i do and had vsg and all i keep finding are people are had rny/ds.I know that surgery is just a tool and i have to make it work for me,I know that its lifestyle changes that Ive been making.I started doing WW in march and working out 4 days a week and have only 11 pds.In that time i know that I've lost inches but the weight don't want to move. Here i now down 11 pounds from my height but still up 17 pounds from two years ago...I'm meeting my surgeon again on August 1st and I'm starting the process over...I'm coming to the board for support and to see if anyone in my weight range had a lot of success...Any tips that anyone can give i would be greatly appreciated.
I am positive that it could work for you, but take into account that it will not work in exactly the same way that a RNY would. For example, what kind of eater are you? Are you a volume eater (really big portions), or do you tend gravitate towards sweets and sugars?
Remember that the sleeve doesn't give you the 'dumping syndrome' like the RNY will initially if you choose to eat sugar or high fat foods. Once your stomach is able to handle solid food with the sleeve it is up to you to make good choices, whereas with the RNY you either make good choices or you suffer the consequences.
Overall, I personally think in the long run the sleeve is the healthier option for ANYONE considering WLS. I wouldn't consider RNY for myself because of all the long term complications associated with it. Something abour re-arranging the way your internal organs are suppose to work together just doesn't seem good to me. It absolutely 'works' initially and you do drop the weight. It's what lays down the road that worries me about the RNY.
Good luck with your decision, and if you do choose the sleeve, you CAN do it and you WILL be successful!

Thank you so much for your info and your positive feedback. I'm not a volume eater I'm more of a grazer and junk food eater....However when push comes to shove i have given it up (junk foods) so that's not really an issue for me,When i started WW in march i cut out the sweets it was hard for a few days but i made it three months without any sweet,I've gone without sweets longer then that.I know that with all of the surgeries you can lose weight.I totally agree with you,I have done my research on RNY but its just something about the re-routing my insides that freaks me out and then the complication,Granted all of these surgeries have complication it just that some of them are more complicated then others.
If you are a true graizer then any surgery is going to be a challenge. Grazing is the biggest contributer to people gaining all the weight back. I think you should research the VSG and the DS. You can lose a lot with this operation but from what I read in your first post you have a sluggish metabolism and you need malabsorbtion.
